Starting from The Hub at Hazelwell, Vicarage Road.
[1] Turn right out of The Hub and right again into Pineapple Road, passing The Hazelwell Pub on your left. Cross over Pineapple Road and continue up as far as Cartland Road. Turn left into Cartland Road and cross over it, using the zebra crossing. Walk downhill, along the footpath that's set back some distance from the busy road.
[2] Take the next right into Lyndworth Road and then, at the T-junction, left into Ashbrook Road, which curves around to the right. At the top of Ashbrook Road turn left into Dad's Lane. Pass the Highbury Pub on your right and Dad's Lane Fish and Chip shop on your left. The road curves around to your left and joins Moor Green Lane. Just before the bridge that spans the River Rea turn left onto the River Rea route, signposted towards Stirchley and King's Norton.
[3] Walking alongside the River Rea, which flows on your right, you'll pass a footbridge and a weir. You'll come to Cartland Road that you cross over by means of a light-controlled pedestrian crossing. Carry on walking on the River Rea walk, which continues almost directly opposite on the other side of Cartland Road. You now enter Hazelwell Park. You'll shortly pass a notice board on your right, detailing the history of the locality, and a children's play area on your left.
Child-friendly feature: Stop to play on the grass area or in the children’s play area.
Carry on walking, passing another bridge over the river, until you come to Hazelwell Road. Now the River Rea footpath crosses over the river alongside the road. Cross over Hazelwell Road, using the dropped kerb. Pick up the Rea River footpath again and walk along it as far as Fordhouse Lane.
[4] Turn left in Fordhouse Lane and pass another pub, the Lifford Curve, on your left. Just after this pub, turn left into Hazelwell Crescent. Follow Hazelwell Crescent uphill. Be aware of the gradient on Hazelwell Crescent, which is steep at one point. At the top of Hazelwell Crescent turn right into Hazelwell Fordrough, right into Pineapple Road and then left into Vicarage Road, to make your way back to The Hub. Again, be careful crossing Fordrough and Pineapple Road (which joins Vicarage Road at this point) because there is no official crossing on either of them.
