[1] Start the walk by crossing Delves Lane, the main road in front of Citizens' House, turn left and use the footbridge to cross the A692.
Delves Lane is a busy main road. Cross using the crossing point that has a mid-carriage island.
[2] After descending the footbridge turn right and walk the length of Gill Street until reaching the coast to coast (C2C) path at a set of steel railings.
[3] Turn left along the C2C. After a short distance leave the C2C and follow a path on the right that passes through a hedge. After a short distance the footpath forks. Take the left hand fork and follow the path through a former area of extensive railway sidings.
The railway is now long gone and the area has been planted to provide a refuge for numerous species of plants, insects and birds.
The path is formed from compacted stones and is firm under foot.
[4] Eventually the path ends when it enters a new housing development. Turn right along a metalled path until a road is reached.
[5] Cross the road using the mid-carriageway island and head in the same direction taking the metalled path between the houses.
[6] At the end of the path Knitsley Lane is reached. Turn right and after a short distance keep your eyes peeled for an informal path through the hedge on the left hand side. This is just before the first green lamp post on the left hand side of the road. Take the path.
[7] Walk in an arc around the stand of trees and walk through the gap between the trees towards the industrial units which are now visible.
[8] Take the road to the side of the industrial units. Towards the end of this road bear right across the open land towards the gap in the belt of trees in the far corner.
[9] Make your way over to the Terra Novalis sculpture and then take the path to the north side. This is the coast to coast (C2C) cycle path.
[10] Follow the C2C path, signposted to Leadgate, crossing Knitsley Lane, until steel railings at the head of Gill Street are reached.
[11] Leave the C2C at this point and walk the length of Gill Street and take the pedestrian bridge over the A692. Cross Delves Lane to take you back to Citizens' House.
