[1] Pass through the green gate opposite the Herries Road entrance to the NGH (A) into Crabtree Grange, exit through the car park and turn right along Crabtree Road. The road dips and climbs again to reach a gap in the wall on the left – the entrance to Crabtree Ponds Local Nature Reserve (B). Turn right either side of the pond and continue ahead up the steps. Ascend the walkway through the grassy area and turn right along Norwood Road. Cross over at some point and turn left into Roe Woods (C) at the sign. Cross the bridge and ascend through the wood on the right bank of the stream. Bear right at the Y-shaped junction (plank footbridge to your left) and continue up to a barrier. Turn right before reaching the playground and walk along the top edge of the greenspace. Pass through an A-frame and continue on this line, ignoring all paths descending into the wood.
[2] Exit the woods at an A-frame and go straight on up the walkway opposite. Turn left at the A-frame half way up and enter Busk Meadow Park (D). Go straight on to the wetland area with its dragonfly sculptures and turn left through an A-frame. Turn left on Shirecliffe Road, right along Longley Avenue West and left into Musgrave Place. Turn left at the signpost by the barrier onto Parkwood Springs. Go straight on along the wide path and bear left. Pass through the A-frame and continue alongside the railings. Bear left with the path then right along a natural path following a wooden fence. Continue along the edge beyond the houses, soon to reach the viewing platform (E). Continue along the edge and turn right at the junction. Pass the terminus of the ski lift and turn right at the junction. The path curves left to a wonderful viewpoint over the city centre. Here turn right and follow the metal posts towards the ski slope and then steeply down alongside it (care needed). Ignore the steep run-off to your left and continue a few more yards before curving left to the wide path below to finish the descent. Turn left along the tarmac to the exit and continue down the road.
[3] Pass beneath the railway, cross Boyland Street and Neepsend Lane opposite the pub and turn left. Turn right at the lights along Rutland Road, immediately crossing the River Don. Cross the dual carriageway at the lights and continue up to Infirmary Road. Cross at the lights and enter the Tesco car park at the tram stop. Slant left and pick up the walkway between the supermarket and old Royal Infirmary. Turn left, cross over and enter the Ponderosa (F) at the interpretative panel. At the end of the tarmac, continue ahead on the improved path, ignoring the steps climbing left. Pass through the stone pillars and ascend all the steps, bearing left at the top to the exit. Enter Weston Park (G) and branch right past the tennis courts. From the terracotta monument, head across the grass past the bandstand to the war memorial and keep left past the Elliot monument to the exit.
[4] Turn left past the entrance to Firth Court, descend the steps, pass beneath the road and continue between the students union and the Hicks building. Descend the steps, turn right and cross Glossop Road into Brunswick Street. Take the second right into Broomspring Lane, left into Havelock Street and immediately right into a seated area (interpretative panel for Art in the Park). Ascend the steps and follow the walkway left. Turn right then left along the road. Just round the corner turn left into the cul de sac to enter Lynwood Gardens (H). Pass to the right of the pond and through the gap in the wall. Head through the gardens to the Francis Newton pub, walk past the entrance, through the archway and along the walkway opposite to the bus stops in front of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (I).
