[1] From Sheffield City council’s Carbrook Office building, turn right to walk along Carbrook Hall Road. Shortly, you will see a cycle path on the left hand side of the road (almost opposite Webster Street on your right). Cross Carbrook Hall Road to take this cycle path, which leads you out onto the roadway, Attercliffe Common.
[2] At the Attercliffe Common road, use the traffic light controlled crossing to cross the dual carriageway. Once over the road, turn right to cross the access road from the retail park and then turn left to follow the cycle track beside the access road, passing 'Toys R Us' on your left.
[3] Continue on the cycle path, bearing right past a small roundabout, later passing Cineworld on your left, following the blue TPT signage. You will walk through Centretainment (cinema complex), then pass a carpark to your left before emerging onto Broughton Lane. Cross Broughton Lane at the traffic light controlled crossing then turn left along the Broughton Lane cycle path.
[4] At the top of the hill, shortly before the railway, take the path which bears right - away from the road, and use the pedestrian/cycle bridge to cross the railway and canal. Once across the bridge, bear right, then shortly afterwards turn right down some shallow steps onto the canal towpath. Turn left to walk along the towpath beside the (A) Sheffield and Tinsley Canal.
The canal towpath between Boughton Lane and Coleridge Road can be very muddy, partly due to cycle tracks and partly due to it having little hardcore beneath and walking along here during or after heavy rain can be difficult. It can be avoided by walking along Park Road, with Norton Works Castings Ltd., providing a view of what used to be a familiar Sheffield sight – the melting of steel at great heat and reforming of tubes, on past a development for autistic students in an interesting style old building, past a recycling plant and on to Coleridge Road and the sloping path down to the canal left just before the bridge.
[5] Continue along the towpath, passing under the Coleridge Road Bridge, then later pass under a foot/cycle bridge. After this second bridge (just before a mooring area on the right hand bank of the canal) turn left up a ramp to cross the canal using the bridge you have just walked under. Once across the canal bridge the path forks left and right. Fork right to follow this path to a bridge which crosses the railway. The dozen or so moderate steps down can be avoided by forking left where the path slopes down and round in a small semi-circle to the bottom of the steps.
[6] Once across the railway bridge, follow the slope down to a complex junction of paths. Take the middle path to the right (the broadest path with drainage stones in the middle) towards the metal bridge with an oval circular design between uprights (not the path on the far right to the supertram). Follow it through a small open area with benches.
[7] The path takes you over Coleridge Road via a metal bridge with an ornate suspension arch, and once over the bridge, follow the path as it circles down to the right. At the bottom of this path (having gone under the bridge you have just crossed) follow the path as it curves right around the open space of (B) East End Park (marked as Don Valley Bowl on the map).
[8] Pass the ICE Sheffield building to your left as you go around the open space in a clockwise direction. The ICE building is a good facility for a toilet or café break. At the end of the ICE Sheffield building, bear left and exit the park, then turning left to walk along the access road, Terry Street.
[9] Turn right into the next side-street, with the Insight building car park to your right. You will pass an old school building to your left and at the end of the road turn left, and follow the road to the junction with the Attercliffe Common road.
[10] At Attercliffe Common, turn right and walk to the next side road where there is a traffic-light controlled crossing. Use this to cross the dual carriageway, arriving at the opposite side in front of the Arena Square pub. Turn right along the cycle path and carefully cross Milford Road then continue along the cycle track onto the cobbled area. At the end of the cobbles, bear right to follow the cycle track alongside the main road.
[11] At Carbrook Street, cross over the road at the traffic lights, before turning left into Carbrook Street, then turn next right down Carbrook Hall Road, to return to the Council Offices.
