[1] Leave the Sports centre, notice the Chestnut tree outside, and go to Stockport Road.
[2] Turn left and walk along the road past the Post Office and the Methodist Church to Midway Street, which is just opposite Matthew Lane.
It is called Midway Street because it is midway between Manchester and the Stockport boundary, or so they thought when the tram route was built over 100 years ago.
[3] Cross over Stockport Road at the traffic lights and walk ahead down Matthew Lane to Stovel Street. Turn left into Stovel Street. Notice the fancy yellow brick the houses are made of, but they don’t have any front gardens. Continue along Stovel Street until you reach Crowcroft Primary School. Here bear left into Northmoor Road.
[4] Forty metres along Northmoor Road, there is a gate into Crowcroft Park. Go into the park and walk to the small rockery.
[5] From the rockery, turn right and walk between the old play area, and the new adventure play equipment. The path curves around, and you can take this curved path to the main gate. However if you want a longer but more interesting walk, turn off right and go down the path by the side of the bowling greens. Walk around the far side of the bowling greens, and turn back towards the centre of the park. Now on you right are some steps which lead down to the willow arbor. Walk through, and possibly go into the children’s walk, by the floor plaque.
[6] Continue on until you reach the main path running parallel to Stockport Road. Then go left and walk to the main gates to exit the park.
[7] Use the traffic lights to cross Stockport Road. Walk down Crowcroft Road and under the railway. On reaching Slade Lane turn left, and walk along crossing Dobcross Avenue. Just after this you pass Slade Hall.
[8] Continue along Slade Road, under the railway line, and on until you reach Rushford Avenue. Turn left into this avenue and walk to the end, turn right when you reach Central Avenue. Walk along until you reach the first pathway going left. Tthis broad path takes you under the railway and brings you out in Crescent Avenue. Walk along until you reach Stockport road. Turn right, and then take the first left, Yew Tee Road, to come back to the Sports Centre.
