Description

[1] Leave the Russell Centre and turn left down Parsonage Road and cross over Alan Road.  Take the next left up Amherst Road.  Cross over when safe to do so. Continue along the road to the crossroads with Mauldeth Road and turn right. Cross Mauldeth Road at a safe place, such as at the traffic lights, and continue until you get to the crossroads (just after Egerton Road)  with the site of the former Ladybarn Pub (A), now sadly demolished, on your left. At this point turn left up Ladybarn Lane - look out for the blue cycleway sign. This area gets its name from a former tithe barn, whose contents were used to support Our Lady's Abbey.

[2] Pass the lovely houses on your left, and the Brewers Arms pub, and after Royle Street, cross when safe, turn right down Kingswood Road and almost immediately turn left into Kingswood Park. Take the path into the park and go around the first green area. At the next path junction take the diagonal narrow path right and exit park near the young children's play area. ( Dogs are excluded from this play area)  This park has seats & picnic benches.

[3] Immediately when you leave the park turn right into an alleyway and continue down in Mostyn Avenue.  At the crossroads turn left on to Lindley Wood Road (no name plate at this point).  Continue up Lindleywood Road and on to the bridge over the Fallowfield Loop.

(B) This is a  disused railway track which formerly provided a connection between Manchester Central Station and the Grand Central Railway.  Passenger services ceased in 1958 and the whole line closed in 1988.

[4] Straight after the bridge turn left down a slope and on to Fallowfield Loop. Continue on the Fallowfield Loop - watch out for cyclists! - until you pass under a bridge and the path starts to slope upwards. The path then passes Sainsburys which will be on your left.  Stay on the right hand side.  You are now at the site of the former Fallowfield Station, now occupied by the Remedy Bar.  Use the pedestrian crossing to cross the busy Wilmslow Road heading towards the Orange Grove Pub and continue straight on down Sherwood Street (the road in between the Orange Grove and Opal Estates).

[5] Just before you get to the T-junction at Wellington Road, turn left at the turquoise & yellow barriers and follow the path as it turns right down the slope under the bridge and joins the Fallowfield Loop again. Continue to follow the old railway track. when you get to the next bridge and blue signposts marked "Yew Tree Road", turn right off the loop through the barriers and on to Avian Drive (no name plate).

[6] Continue straight on.  When you reach the T-junction turn right and shortly afterwards turn right again on to Yew Tree Road.  Continue straight on over the bridge. Cross over Victoria Road and Delacourt Road and soon you will get to the junction with Mauldeth Road West.  Cross over at the traffic lights when safe to do so and then cross over Yew Tree Road towards Old Moat Park.  Enter the park via the entrance on your left.

(C)The Old Moat Park is named after a moat which once surrounded a manor house here. It has gained Green Flag awards for excellence for 6 years in succession.

[7] Continue on  the path and at the junction turn left passing the play area on your left. The path may be flooded in heavy rain.  Continue with the basketball court to your left and at the path junction turn right past the wooden wizard. At the next path junction turn left (walking with the green fence to your right) and head toeards the park exit on your right.

[8] Exit the park on to Rippingham Road and turn left.  Continue along the road until you get to the junction at Wilmslow Road.  Head to the pedestrian crossing to your right and use it to cross the busy Wilmslow Road.  Turn right and almost immediately left on to Swinbourne Grove.  Follow this road as it leads to Parsonage Road. A large, dark ghost is said to have emerged from a disused house on this corner: look out for it! Turn left and continue until you get to the Russell Centre.
