[1] From the Surgery turn left along King Alfred Avenue. Turn right at the end along Southend Lane. Cross at pedestrian lights.
Turn left. Turn right along Sedgehill Road. Turn left by a school on the right. Continue along Sedgehill Road. Turn right at the end into Dunfield Road. Continue along Dunfield Road to the end junction with Beckenham Hill Road.
[2] Turn left along Beckenham Hill Road. Cross Beckenham Hill Road at pedestrian lights. Turn left.
[3] Just past the railway, turn right through gates along a drive. The drive leads into Beckenham Place Park.
(A) Beckenham Place Park is the largest open space in Lewisham, covering over 200 acres. It forms part of what used to be a much larger estate, and the park contains several listed buildings. [4] Continue along the drive where it turns half left. Turn right at a path junction. Continue along the path, which becomes a track after a right hand bend. Go on over the railway bridge. Continue along the same track past a green waste compost site in a clearing on the right. The track becomes narrow in places and goes on through woodland. Go right along a winding track at a path fork by a small wooden signpost. Keep left at the next path junction by another small wooden signpost. Turn right at the next path junction by another small signpost. Go ahead at the next junction. Go ahead at the next junction by another small signpost.
[5] Go ahead at a crossing of paths by another small signpost. Go ahead (slightly left) at the next junction by a small signpost. Turn right in front of a tall Green Chain signpost. Turn left at the next tall Green Chain signpost, partly obscured on the left. Go along a long partly wooded track through a golf course. Take care to look out for flying golf balls! Turn left by a small wooden signpost below trees. Continue all the way to Beckenham Place House. There are toilets and a cafe here together with a fine view from a terrace over the park.
[6] Walk back around the house the way you came.
[7] Just after the house approach paths, turn left by a small signpost. Turn right, by a tall signpost, along a road. Follow a path parallel to and to the right of the road at another tall signpost. Continue downhill. The path and road meet again. Go out of the park between two gatehouses. Turn right along Beckenham Hill Road. Cross at pedestrian lights. Turn left. Turn right along Dunfield Road.
Continue to the end. Cross Southend Lane at traffic lights.
[8] Go ahead along Brookehowse Road. Cross Farmstead Road. Turn half left along Swallands Road. Go ahead to Bellingham Green, then turn left and return to the Surgery.
