Description

Starting from: the underpass at Windmill Hill Business Park, SN5 6PE.

[1] From Windmill Hill Business Park walk through the underpass and almost immediately turn right to walk along the pavement parallel with Whitehill Way. Follow the path round until you reach the pedestrian controlled crossings that will take you across Great Western Way. Caution: this is a very busy road so please be patient and wait for the lights to change before attempting to cross.

(A) The Windmill Hill Business Park takes its name from the traditional windmill which is the beautiful centrepiece of the Park. The windmill gives the impression that it has been there for a century or more but in fact it has stood there only since the 1980s though its history stretches back rather further. The windmill was moved, brick by brick, from its original site in Chiseldon where it had been since the 1820s.

[2] At the south side of Great Western Way turn right toward the roundabout but then bear left down Ramsden Road until you come to the crossroads. Here you must turn left and proceed along Frankland Road to the roundabout at the far end. Caution: there are a number of factory entrances to negotiate along this road and some of them do have an obscured view of traffic entering and leaving.

[3] At the roundabout you will notice a signed footpath on the left, follow this footpath as it runs parallel to Great Western Way until you come to the underpass on your left. Go through the underpass and follow the footpath through a right and left turn until you come to a T-junction with another footpath. This is the lower boundary of Toothill Park.

[4] Our walk doesn’t take us through the park, but if you have some extra time it's well worth exploring. Instead, take a left turn and follow the footpath until it brings you out into Grantham Close. Go into the Close and, just after the garages, turn left and walk toward the hammer head at the far end of the road. Just before you reach it, you will see a footpath between the houses on your right. Turn up here to come out into Newark Close on your left and then to the right walk to the tee junction at the top of the Close.

[5] You are now stood on Worsley Road which is one of the spine roads for the Freshbrook estate. Staying on the same side of the Drive, turn left and follow the path all the way down until just past the Freshbrook Evangelical Church you turn left into Uxbridge Road.  Follow it around to the right and walk to the far end. At the far end is Windmill Court sheltered housing where you will find a wide footpath on your left that runs along the perimeter fence. Turn left along this footpath and down the slope to the underpass which goes under Whitehill Way, go through the underpass and back into Windmill Hill Business Park.

(B) Freshbrook Evangelical Church, Swindon,  An Evangelical Christian Church focused on family outreach and spiritual learning.
