[1] Begin this walk at Willington Library. Start by crossing the road using the pedestrian crossing heading towards the Co-op.
[2] You will shortly see the‘Brandon to Bishop Auckland’ walk way sign on your left, you should take this left and this will take you through the co-op car park towards the walking line. Beware of Cars in this area!
[3] You should follow the path along keeping on the walking side of the path being cautious of the cycle lane. Look out for cyclists!
[4] As you are walking along the path you will see houses to both sides of you at first, then further along the footpath you will have the old railway houses to the left of you and allotments to the right of you.
[5] Continue on past the cycle sign post and look to your left to see the old site of the Brancepeth collieries. After a bench on your left follow the sign for Durham. You will soon come to a road which you should cross over at the dropped curb and follow the ‘Brandon - Bishop Auckland’ walking line.
[6] As you continue along the line you will see the Pulverite Plant on your left. As you keep walking further down the line you will come to some lovely countryside views to your right. Continue along until you come to a gate then turn right to go through a second gate and continue down the field. Be careful as surfaces in the field can be slightly uneven in places.
[7] You should continue walking down the field until you reach the A690 road. You should cross over this road when it is safe to do so and then once over the road you should turn right to walk toward the small roundabout. Be aware the A690 road can be very busy at times.
[8] Follow this path through Low Willington with the main road to the right of you.
[9] Cross the road at 'Stony bank' and continue until just after the white colored house then cross over the A690 and turn left then right onto 'Manor Road' towards Willington Cricket Club.
[10] Cross ‘Paddock Road’ and ‘Surtees Drive’ then turn right at the road sign for the cricket club. Follow along the footpath with ‘Willington Cricket Club’ on your right.
[11] Follow the footpath past the Cricket Club and when you join the walking line again you should turn left and follow the footpath back to the Library.
