This inner city walk has a number of busy roads, please take care when crossing these and use pedestrian crossings where possible
[1] Take the steps at the top of Constitution Hill, cross over Swain Street and then St George's Way
[2] Turn left by the Leicester Mercury Offices and cross over Charles Street
[3] Turn right into Granby Street and continue for about 400m
[4] Turn left by the Grand Hotel onto Belvoir Street
[5] Take the second right onto Market Street and continue onto Hotel Street
[6] Turn next right onto Market Place and pass through the passage onto Gallowtree Gate
(A) Leicester Outdoor Market is around 800 years old and has been on the present site since about 1300AD. It is the largest permanent outdoor covered market in the UK selling a wide variety of goods. The market stands next to the indoor market which opened in 1973. Between the two lies the Corn Exchange built in 1850 for farmers to trade their grain.
