Getting there

Arriving by coach on a dedicated cathedral visit, visitors will be dropped close to the cathedral.

Arriving by car there are numerous car parks but all a walk away from the cathedral. The nearest is Fairfax St between Coventry Sports Centre ("the elephant over the road") and the Gala Bingo Centre. From there walk under the green concrete student residence that bridges the road and up to the cathedral.

There are free toilets in Pool Meadow bus station, adjacent to Gala Bingo. They are open in the daytime.

Description

[1] From the cathedral steps in Priory St, walk down the steps or ramp, turn right and turn right again around the corner of the old cathedral.

Photo 1. New and old cathedrals.

After a short distance, cross the road and walk the length of St Marys St on the left hand side.

Photo 4. The Council House on your right is Coventry's main civic building. As you walk along the St Marys St, look at the large clock high up on the corner of the building (A). Below the clock, a statue of Peeping Tom peers out.

At the end of the street, cross the road, taking care as this is a busy road, and turn right.

[2] Walk under the red brick building, turn left by the entrance doors and walk diagonally across the green and across Little Park St at the pedestrian crossing, then turn left and continue to the end of the street.

Turn right and cross the dual carriageway at the pedestrian crossing, turn right and walk under the shelter of the elevated car park.

[3] Turn left into Friars Road and walk along the left hand side.

Photo 3. The ramp from Friars Road to the bridge over the ring road.

Near the end of Friars Rd take the ramp to the footbridge over the ring road. The footbridge brings you to Manor Rd where you turn left.

[4] At the crossroads turn right into Park Road and walk under the building that spans the road.

After passing under the building, turn left and cross the green and the taxi rank to enter Coventry station.

Coventry station is a listed building because of its design which was innovative when it was built in the 1960's. The toilets within the station are free to travellers.
