The walk starts from the City of Coventry Health Centre, where a cafe and toilet facilities are available.
[1] With your back to the health centre, start the walk by turning left and walking up Stoney Stanton Rd. Very soon you may notice a small green area on the left of Frank Walsh House. When you reach Leicester Causeway, turn left and very soon you will see the entrance to the Coventry Canal. on the right.
Stoney Stanton Rd is always very busy, so take extra care when crossing over side streets.
[2] After passing through the Leicester Causeway entrance to the canal, turn immediately right, with the canal on your left. Continue along, passing under the bridge, until you reach some decorative blue railings on the right. You will also notice a small children's play area. Take the second exit on the right and walk down the slope to Trentham Rd.
(A) The Coventry Canal is about 5 miles long and is described as one of the greenest urban canals in the country.; a mixture of peace and quiet along with industrial heritage. There is an Art Trail along the towpath.
Extra care is required when walking near water and young children need careful supervision. Beware of cyclists on the tow path.
[3] When you reach the bottom of Trentham Rd, turn right and then cross over the road (Harnell Lane East) and walk down King Edward Road. Turn right onto King William Street and continue straight on past a primary school and The Hillfields Hub (which is on the site of the old Coventry City Farm). When you arrive at a mini roundabout, continue straight on into Victoria Street which later becomes Primrose Hill Street. Stop at the traffic lights.
[4] When safe to do so, cross over the road to The Swanswell Tavern. Continue on for a few yards, and turn into the entrance to Swanswell Park. Follow the path with the pool on your left, and then continue along the path towards the exit onto Stoney Stanton Rd where you will now see The City of Coventry Health Centre. Cross over the road to return to your starting point.
(B) Swanswell Pool is all that remains of a much larger lake known as Babba Lacu. The Pool was rebuilt after extensive damage after WW2.
Children should be carefully supervised near water.
