[1] The walk starts at the City of Coventry Health Centre, where toilet facilities and a WRVS cafe are available during opening hours. Turn right and walk down the Stoney Stanton Rd towards the City Centre. When the road turns left, carry on and follow the road as it turns right and ascends slightly. Continue on as you pass a large traffic island on the left until you reach a pedestrian crossing on your left.
[2] Cross the Foleshill Rd (dual carriageway) and turn left into Leicester Row. Take the entrance in some railings on the right, just before Draper's Fields Bridge and descend down to join the Coventry Canal tow path. The Coventry Canal Basin is nearby and worth visiting if you have time. The sloping path has a series of very small steps, maximum height about 3 inches. Turn right, with the canal on your left, and follow this tow path. Note the points of interest below. Soon after you pass under bridge No 2. you will see an exit to Brooklyn Rd on your right. Descend down seven steps to Brooklyn Rd.
Be aware of cyclists on the tow path.
(A) Just before you reach Electric Wharf and the new foot-bridge, you will see a black marker on the right hand side of the tow path. It refers to the remaining part of the old Daimler factory that made the first British production car in 1897.
(B) Electric Wharf, part of the rejuvenation of the inner city - 'unique waterside homes'.
(C) There are lots of wild flowers and shrubs, especially Buddlia, growing along the canal banks.
Great care should always be taken when walking close to water.
[3] Walk down Brooklyn Rd and turn right at the junction with the Foleshill Rd. Walk down the Foleshill Rd, crossing over to the left hand side at the pedestrian crossing. Continue down the road, passing the Nanaksar Gurdwana Gursikh Temple until you reach Eagle Street.
[4] Turn down Eagle Street and then turn right down Springfield Rd. As you progress, you will be able to see the City of Coventry Health Centre. As you arrive at Harnall Lane (W) you will see the Gurdwara Gurunanak Parkash Mosque on your left and St Stanislaus Kostka's Church and Polish Community Centre on your right. Carefully cross over Harnall Lane (W) and continue along Howard St until you reach the starting point.
