The City of Coventry Health Centre has toilet facilities and a WRVS cafe which are available during opening hours.
Coventry City Centre is a busy and sometimes congested place. Take extra care at all times when crossing roads, and use the pedestrian crossings whenever available.
[1] On leaving the City of Coventry Health Centre, turn right and walk down the Stoney Stanton Rd, heading towards the City Centre, until the road turns left. At this point, continue straight on following the road round to the right. Continue along as you walk past the large traffic island until you reach the pedestrian crossing.
[2] Cross over the Foleshill Rd (dual carriageway) and turn left into Leicester Row. After a very short distance cross over the road and walk up and over Draper's Field Bridge. The incline up and over the bridge is relatively steep. Follow the road round to the left to enter the Coventry Basin. Public Toilets are available and there are a number of shops including a reasonably priced cafe. Spend time here if you wish to.
The Canal presents a hazard especially to small children. Close supervision is recommended.
Continue through the Canal Basin and exit on to St Nicholas St.
[3] Cross over the road and walk up St Columba's Close and take the first left turn. Continue down the road for a short distance and then follow the path over the Radford Rd foot-bridge and down to the tower block on Middleborough Rd. There are a few steps near the bottom of the footbridge. Wheelchair and pushchair users can walk around the outside of the large tower block and descend down the drive to Middleborough Rd. Continue along Middleborough Rd until you reach the entrance to Naul's Mill Park. Walk around the pool and exit at the gate you entered. If you have time to spare, you could extend your walk further into the Park. There is a children's playground area.
(A) Naul's Mill Park was created in 1909 and had a bandstand. The original pool was a mill pool serving a mill that had operated for centuries, but ceased use in 1889.
The pavements on both sides of Middleborough are uneven and too narrow in places due to large trees. It is necessary to walk on the road with care. Caution is needed when walking around the pool.
[4] On leaving the Park, turn left and return back up Middleborough Rd and turn right into Mill Street. At the bottom of Mill Street, there is the Fire Station - turn left into an alley way which brings you up to the Ring road. Turn right and descend into the underpass, and follow round until you arrive at the top of Upper Well Street. Walk (by the Premier Inn) down Upper Well Street, crossing over the road at the pedestrian crossing and then continue down to Corporation Street.
[5] Continue along Corporation Street, cross over Bishop Street, and continue along Hales Street until you reach Millennium Place and the Coventry Transport Museum, which is the world's largest transport museum.
(B) Coventry Transport Museum is free to enter (although donations are welcome) and open from 10am till 5pm, and is well worth a visit. Toilet facilities and a cafe are available.
(C) Lady Herbert's Garden was laid out in the 1930's by Sir Alfred Herbert in memory of his late wife, Florence, who died unexpectedly in 1930. It is situated between Swanswell Gate and Cook Street Gate and provided a restful garden for visitors and residents alike.
Walk in front of the Transport Museum and then follow the footpath leading to the 'blue' sky walk and continue along it as it passes over Lady Herbert's Garden and parts of the medieval city wall. Follow the footpath until it reaches ground level, and then walk directly ahead to go through the underpass.
[6] Once through the underpass, continue straight ahead until you reach Bird Street, and cross over with care, looking for traffic coming from the right. Enter Swanswell Park, and follow the foot path with the pool on the right. Children should be carefully supervised when walking near water. As the pool curves to the right, follow the foot path veering to the left, and exit the park very close to the City of Coventry Health Centre on Stoney Stanton Rd. Cross over the road to return to the start of your walk.
