Getting there

Auden Way is off West Way, which runs between Newport Road (A518) and Rising Brook (A449). Parking is available on Auden Way. Drive along West Way until reaching the Westway Pub. Take Shakespeare Road opposite, then turn left and left again.

The Centre is served by bus route 9 from Gaol Street in Stafford town centre, 4 times per hour on weekdays and Saturdays and hourly on Sundays. Get off at Dryden Close, and the centre is 100 metres ahead of you on the right.

Description

[1]  From the Signpost Centre, cross Auden Way and turn right up the pavement.

[2]  At the top of Auden Way, turn left and follow the road (this is Wordsworth Avenue) to the end.

[3]  Cross over Coleridge Road and turn right. Follow the pavement 10 metres to Surrey Road.

[4]  Turn left into Surrey Road and follow the pavement until Surrey Road meets Tennyson Road.

[5]  Turn right along Tennyson Road.

[6]  Cross Coleridge Drive and immediately turn left and follow the footpath past the iron railings towards the tall block of flats (this is The Keep).

[7]  Just before you reach the flats, turn right and follow the small road to the end (this is Milton Grove).

The pavement here is blocked by a lamppost and the road may be full of parked cars. An alternative for wheelchair users might be to turn right half way up the footpath and go round the circular raised area to reach Milton Grove.

[8]  Cross Milton Grove and turn left (The Keep will be on your left across the road). Proceed along this road, crossing Watts Close.

[9]  Alternative route: take the second right onto Landor Way and follow the road to the end. Take the small footpath left then right at the hedge onto Aspen way to re-join the main route at [12].

[10]  Take the third right into Whittingham Drive and follow the pavement for 150 metres until you reach a footpath on the right – just after house number 6b.

[11]  Turn right onto this footpath and follow it to the road at the end (this is Aspen Croft).

[12]  Cross Aspen Croft and turn left. Follow the road to the end.

[13]  Turn right – this is Marlowe Road. Go down the road, crossing Hardy Road.

[14]  At the end of Marlowe Road, cross the road and turn right. You are now on Tennyson Road.

[15]  Continue along Tennyson Road and opposite Castlechurch Primary School follow the road round to the left onto Chaucer Road.

[16]  At the end of Chaucer Road, cross over onto Auden Way and return to the Signpost Centre.

POI information

(A)  Stafford Signpost Centre, Highfields

Located at the heart of the local community, the Signpost Centre was established in 2007 and soon became a social hub for the local community.

The centre provides a vibrant and welcoming place to meet, chat and enjoy a quiet cuppa as well as offering access to the internet and advice on housing, financial and family services.

A recent addition to the centre has been the creation of a sensory garden in what was an overgrown and apparently useless plot of land beside the building. A quiet haven for all the community to enjoy, this small plot shows what can be achieved when people work together.
