Getting there

Auden Way is off West Way, which runs between Newport Road (A518) and Rising Brook (A449). Parking is available on Auden Way. Drive along West Way until reaching the Westway Pub. Take Shakespeare Road opposite, then turn left and left again.

The Centre is served by bus route 9 from Gaol Street in Stafford town centre, 4 times per hour on weekdays and Saturdays and hourly on Sundays. Get off at Dryden Close, and the centre is 100 metres ahead of you on the right.

Description

[1]  Leave the Signpost Centre, turn left and follow the footpath down to West Way.

[2]  At West Way, turn right and follow the pavement past the Graffiti Wall (B) .

[3]  Turn first right into Coleridge Drive and proceed along the pavement crossing Wordsworth Avenue until you reach the end.

[4]  Cross Tennyson Road and turn left.

If you wish to shorten the route do not cross Tennyson Road, but instead turn right and go along the road 100 metres to waypoint [9] and continue from there.

[5]  Turn first right into Keats Avenue and follow the road almost to the end.

[6]  Cross Keats Avenue past the bollards into the small road and pass some garages on your left (this is Bagots Oak). This is awkward for wheelchairs.

[7]  At the crossroads turn left onto Somerset Road.

[8]  Take the first left at the next crossroads into Tennyson Road. Cross Tennyson Road and proceed across Surrey Road and Coleridge Drive.

[9]  By the Castlechurch Primary School, follow Tennyson Road right into Chaucer Road.

[10]  Where Chaucer Road bends left into Wordsworth Avenue, cross over Wordsworth Avenue and turn left. Note that the drop down from the pavement is sloping and awkward here.

[11]  Turn right into Auden Way and return to the Signpost Centre.

POI information

(A) Stafford Signpost Centre, Highfields

Located at the heart of the local community, the Signpost Centre was established in 2007 and soon became a social hub for the local community.

The centre provides a vibrant and welcoming place to meet, chat and enjoy a quiet cuppa as well as offering access to the internet and advice on housing, financial and family services.

A recent addition to the centre has been the creation of a sensory garden in what was an overgrown and apparently useless plot of land beside the building. A quiet haven for all the community to enjoy, this small plot shows what can be achieved when people work together.

(B) The graffiti wall was created by the local community and features comic book characters from the last eight decades.
