Route Summary A circular walk passing allotments and some open land that might soon be developed for housing. Then walk along Half-way Avenue with it's fine mature trees, before returning to Chaul End Community Centre.

Getting there

Both the 7 and 38 Bus pass the centre and have stops in Dunstable Road.

There is limited unrestricted parking in the service road parallel to Dunstable Road.

Description

[1] Turn left out of the Community Centre entrance and follow the path to the traffic lights.

(A) Leicester Arms - Pub/Restaurant - part of the Sizzling  Pubs chain. It runs quizzes on Sundays.

[2] Cross Leicester Road with care using the pedestrian lights, turn left up the right hand pavement of that road, crossing Weatherby Road, until you reach the junction with Thirlstone Road.

[3] Turn right up Thirlstone Road and follow the left hand pavement until you reach No 37.

[4] Turn left up the track to the side of 37 and you will pass to the left of Bradley Road Leisure Gardens.

(B)  Much of Bradley Road Leisure Gardens is set aside for allotments. There are proposals to develop the land for housing

[5] The track leads into Bradley Road. Turn right and follow the right hand path, passing Samara Fashions and the Bradley Convenience Store, until you reach the turning on the right to Halfway Avenue.

[6] Turn right into Half-way Avenue and follow the right hand path.

(C)  This avenue is lined with fine Lime trees, which were planted when the first houses were built in the late 1930's. 

 Follow the avenue back to Dunstable Road, where you will find a large Travel Lodge on your left. The service road on this side is sometimes called Belper Road.

[7] Turn right by the Travel Lodge and follow the right hand path back to the Leicester Arms.

[8] Cross Leicester Road with care by the traffic lights and continue ahead until you reach the Community Centre..
