Description

[1] Leave Lister house turning right and then immediately right along Southern Way. Just past the railings on the right look for a gap in the hedge leading into the shopping centre car park.

[2] Enter the car park and follow the path to the right of Blockbuster Video. Walk down to join the cycle track, turning left,  taking care to keep to the side marked for pedestrians. Follow this track  to Pinceybrook Road [7], cross the road and continue straight ahead on the cycle track.

[3] Reach a fork in the cycle track, signposted Kingsmoor to the right, but continue straight on to follow the track which then bears left. Keep the hedge on the left hand side and houses on the right. Pass a group of large trees with an open grass area on the right.

You may see grey squirrels here.

(A) Children's playground

[4] On the left, opposite the large tree look for a silver lamppost and turn left onto a footpath between hedges. Follow the footpath as it passes through Maund's Wood after which the path turns left and then right to pass beside The Treehouse Children's Centre. Continue until reaching the road.

(B) Maund's Wood is an area of ancient woodland.

[5] Turn left into Parnall Road passing The Treehouse Children's Centre on the left and then Stewards School on the left.

[6]  Just after Stewards School turn left into Pinceybrook Road  and cross the road, at a safe point, continuing until reaching the cycle track on the right, just before The Gatehouse Centre..

[7] Turn right onto the cycle track and follow it until a blue cycle track sign where it bears left and starts to go downhill towards the subway.

[8] At this point turn left and follow the track to reach Perry Road, then turn right to return to Lister House.

Be aware of cyclists and always keep to the pedestrian side of cycle tracks

There are some uneven pavements on the route, so beware of tripping.

POI information

Maund's Wood

“This is a small area of ancient woodland that survives amongst the urban area of Kingsmoor. It comprises mainly coppiced Hornbeam
(Carpinus betulus) interspersed with Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur) standards. Other species include Crab apple (Malus sylvestris) and
Hazel (Corylus avellana). The ground flora is very poor due to considerable use for recreation.”
