[1] From the start, turn left along Folville Street (towards Twyford). Go round the bend and past the Parish Church of St Mary's on the right. Follow turns in the road, passing Stallard House on the left and continue round the next bend. Go over a bridge with a low wall on each side of the road.
[2] Follow a sign on the right and join the Midshires Way footpath. Go over a bridge and continue along an unmade road to the left. When this road bends right, bear left onto the path across the fields.
[3] In the second field paths cross at right angles. Turn left here, go downhill and over a bridge and stile.
[4] Continue to follow the track straight on across several fields, using the yellow-topped waymark posts and generally heading south of east. On reaching some houses the path goes over a stile to the left of the houses. As the path joins a track in front of the houses, bear left and join the road, opposite Springfield House. You are now on Tilton Road (B6047) in the village of Twyford.
[5] Turn left and walk a short distance along the road to the junction with Main Street.
[6] Turn right along Main Street. Go past St Andrew's Church on the left and the Saddle pub on the right.
[7] Turn left along Church Lane.
[8] After a short distance take Hollands Lane to the right.
[9] At the end of the lane, follow the path which bears left. Go through a wooded area, bear left over a stile and right when entering the field. Continue following the waymarks. After a while the path crosses a dismantled railway and bears right uphill, through a gap in the hedge. Go over the brow of the hill and down to a stile and bridge. Then continue straight ahead across the next field. Keep going to a t-junction of paths at a gap in the hedge on the right.
[10] Turn right and bear left, following the blue arrow on a waymark post.
[11] At the path junction follow the bridleway straight on.
[12] Arriving at a road (Twyford Road), cross a wide wooden bridge. Turn left along the road and bear right as it becomes Main Street, Burrough on the Hill.
[13] Continue along Main Street, passing Grant's Free House on the right and the Old Rectory on the left. Soon afterwards, on the left, is the Church of St Mary the Virgin. A seat in the churchyard helps to make it a pleasant place to take a break. Continue along the road and leave the village, ignoring a path sloping down to the left. The road becomes Somerby Road. Take care here - there is traffic but no proper footpath!
[14] At the right-hand bend take the footpath to the left. Pass a Severn Trent facility and go through the gate on the right. Follow the marker pointing left and go straight ahead at the next gate.
[15] The path reaches a concrete road running left-right. Straight ahead are markers for the Leicestershire Round. Do not follow them. Instead, turn left along the concrete road. This is also the Leicestershire Round. Soon you will reach the entrance to Burrough Hill, a well-preserved Iron Age fort. You may wish to take a circular detour around this site. If not (or after the detour), continue along the Leicestershire Round, passing to the south of the fort ramparts. Follow the clear signs for the Leicestershire Round till you reach a road.
Go straight across the road and continue uphill to a junction with a path to the right and a road ahead and left. Turn left, following the Leicestershire Round sign and take the road all the way into Thorpe Satchville. On reaching the 30mph signs, go straight ahead along Bakers Lane. At the junction, go slightly left and across into Church Lane. Ignore the footpath sign pointing into Church Walk and, 30 metres further on, follow the Leicestershire Round sign on the left, indicating 'Ashby Folville 1½ miles'. Pass to the right of the church, go over a stile and follow the path marker to the right. Soon, enter a field with a waymark on the right and two metal gates. Go through the further gate and head downhill, bearing right. At the next marker, bear left and go under an old railway bridge. Bear right across a field and continue in the same general direction across several more fields.
When approaching the houses of Ashby Folville, the field with the path has two waymarked exits - a stile and a gate - within 50 metres of each other. Take the exit on the right, marked 'Leicestershire Round', and carry straight on.
[16] On reaching the road - Highfield End - turn left.
[17] Continue to the junction with Folville Street.
[18] The starting point - The Carington Arms - is on the left-hand side.
