Getting there

There is a car park outside of the Leisure Centre and regular buses (6, 6A and X21) from Durham to Spennymoor High Street. 

Description

[1] Leave the Leisure Centre and turn right onto the footpath.  Do not walk through the underpass but bear left on the footpath and cross a side road.

[2] Turn right past Aldi and enter High Street at St Cuthbert’s Hospice.  As you look to your left you will see the clock tower of the Town Hall.

[3] Cross straight over High Street to turn right onto Festival Walk.  The Bandstand will be to your right.

[4] Turn left at the Cheque Centre and opposite Kwik Save and walk under the underpass into the car park

[5] Turn right and walk through the bollards to the Kingfisher Pub then cross the road at the crossing and turn left to walk up the footpath on the opposite side of the road to Festival Walk.

[6] Turn right past the Victoria Pub into Villiers Street and walk past ‘home’ and  Elevate Church on your right to enter Jubilee Park through the metal gates at the end of the street. Take care on Villiers Street and watch out for traffic as there is no footpath in places

[7] Walk straight ahead then bear left and walk towards the play area, passing the sensory garden on your left.  Stay on the path within the park and bear left to pass the bowling greens on your left and coal tubs on your right.

[8] Exit the park through the gates and turn left.  Stay on the path crossing Jubilee Close and Jackson Street to join Carr Street

[9] Cross Dickens Street and another side street then turn left onto High Street.  Cross the road at the crossing opposite the Town Hall.

[10] Cross High Street opposite St Cuthbert’s Hospice and walk towards Aldi then turn left to walk back to the Leisure Centre.

Spennymoor Town FC is the local football club. The team plays in the Northern League Division One. The club began playing in the Northern League in 1931 - 32 under the name: Evenwood Town.
