[1] From the church hall turn right and cross the road to the corner in front of the post office, and continue ahead along the pavement of Galgate.
[2] Cross the ends of Marshall Street and Baliol Street, then turn right to cross Galgate at the pedestrian crossing, and turn left.
[3] Very soon take a path to the right, entered under an archway. The path soon broadens out into a residential cul-de-sac with pavement. Keep ahead to Victoria Road and turn right along the pavement.
[4] Cross Victoria Road as soon as it is clear, and continue until reaching an unmade road on the left at a slight bend in the road, and go left along it. Follow this to its end at a T-junction with the cemetery ahead.
[5] Turn left along the path until reaching a track to the right behind the houses of Wilson Street. Follow the track to its end where it turns left into Wilson Street.
Many of the occupiers have created garages accessible from this track, but a few have retained the old privies at the bottom of the garden, back-to-back, with their small windows.
[6] Cross Wilson Street and turn right. Almost immediately turn left along the path into Dunelm Court’s quiet gardens, and then right to exit under an arch into Birch Road. Follow the pavement down to the corner with Newgate, and St Mary’s Catholic Church, and turn left along the wide pavement.
[7] On reaching the main gates of The Bowes Museum, enter and turn right. Just beyond the steps of the small building find an unmade path passing quite close to the wall of the grounds. Here there are examples of pre-historic rock art, and examples of early stonework. Follow this perimeter path round the grounds of the Museum up the side and then along the back of the museum grounds, going anti-clockwise until reaching the pedestrian wrought iron gate in the far corner. Go through the gate and turn left.
[8] Cross the road, leaving Dawson Road to your right, then at the bend in the road turn right along a tarmac path with an open grassed space and children’s play area to your left.
[9] Continue to the end and go ahead into a residential cul-de-sac, crossing to the left pavement. Follow this past the entrance to the Health Centre on the right until reaching Victoria Road and turning left.
[10] Cross Victoria Road into John Street and follow the pavement to the end, turning left into Galgate.
[11] Almost immediately there is a staggered pedestrian crossing. Take this to continue down Galgate with its gardens and trees, on across the ends of Baliol Street and Marshall Street to arrive at the post office. Cross Flatts Road to return to the Methodist Church and church hall.
