Route Summary This is a walk of one-and-quarter miles around the old part of Milton Keynes village and some of the new housing built more recently.

Getting there

The start can be reached using MK bus route 17, from Bletchley to the Coachway.

The bus travels along Broughton Road, round Griffith Gate roundabout and along Worrelle Avenue. Both these roads appear on the route map. More information is available at http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/

Alternatively, the start may be reached by car from Tongwell Street (V11).

There is a carpark at the start for users of the medical centre or the pharmacy.

Description

[1] Walk out of the medical centre to the the nearest road – Griffith Gate. Turn left and follow the path to the roundabout, which is signposted Griffith Gate Roundabout.

[2] At the roundabout, follow the path round to the right and into Worrelle Avenue. Carry on down Worrelle Avenue on the redway path, crossing Clare Croft and Howe Court along the way, until you reach Tanfield Lane. Cross the lane to a T-junction with another redway.

[3] Turn left and cross Worrelle Avenue. Keep straight along the redway, passing the Pavilion (A) and the cricket pitch on the right. After about 50 yards you will pass a plaque indicating the site of a late Saxon cemetery

[4] The redway finishes at a small car park. Exit the car park and bear right, following the road and passing a small playground (B) and Milton Keynes village hall (C) on your left.

[5] At the T-junction (with Willen Road) you will see All Saints' Church (D) to your right on the other side of the road. Turn left and continue down the road, passing The Swan Inn public house (E). At the time of writing this is being rebuilt after a bad fire just before Christmas 2011. Please note that there is no footpath beside this road, but the road is very quiet.

[6] As you pass the pub, you will come to another T-junction (with Broughton Road/ Walton Road)). Bear right down Walton road, passing the entrances to Hopkins Close, Dormans Close and Campania Close.

[7] Beyond Campania Close you will come to an elongated roundabout in Claridge Drive. Follow the roundabout to the left, along the redway, and then cross over Claridge Drive to join the redway running along Claridge Drive. Turn left along the redway. Carry on down, crossing the entrances to Wingfield Drive, Swayne Rise, Great Linch,Wrens Park and Halswell Place.

[8] You will come to Griffith Gate Roundabout. Follow this round to the right, ignoring the redway which turns sharp right at this point. Carry on down Griffith Gate to the medical centre which is now in sight, just to the right, ahead of you.
