Description

[1] Leave the West Green Learning Centre and turn right to reach a zebra crossing to cross West Green Road. At the far side of the crossing, turn left and then, immediately, right into Clinton Road. Continue to the end of the road.

[2] Turn right into Clarence Road and cross the road at a safe point. Continue to the end of the road and turn left into Black Boy Lane.

[3] Just after turning into Black Boy Lane there is an entrance to a park on the left, with some black railings. Enter the park, turning left to follow a cycle track with a row of trees on the right and a single tree on the left. when the path forks, take the left path and walk with  the backs of some houses on the left and the park on the right. Follow the path round to the right keeping the tennis courts on the right.

Be aware of cyclists sharing the path.

[4] On reaching the Chestnuts Community Centre, on the right, turn left towards a park gate. Take the path on the right, just before the gate, and head towards a horse sculpture. Leave the park by the gate to the left of the horse sculpture onto St. Ann's Road.

[5] Turn left to follow St Ann's Road until reaching a zebra crossing and a police station on the opposite side of the road. Turn left into North Grove through a small pedestrian area and continue to the end of the road.

[6] Turn left into Gorleston Road, cross the road at a safe point, and continue to the end. Turn right into Cornwall Road and, again, cross at a safe point. Continue to the junction with West Green Road.

[7] Turn left into West Green Road and cross the road using the pedestrian crossing towards the war memorial. Turn left to return to the West Green Learning Centre.

 

 

POI information

A. Children's playground

Award winning Chestnuts Park has a distinctive avenue of plane trees marking out the western, southern and northern boundaries. An open playing field covers the majority of the western side of the Park with the café and picnic terrace overlooking the new, state of the art playground for various ages, to the south.

The eastern half of the park contains newly refurbished tennis courts, basketball area, and a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).

B. St. Ann's Hospital.

The North Eastern Fever Hospital was opened by the Metropolitan Asylums Board on 8 October 1892 to treat patients suffering from fever and diphtheria. It was situated in St Ann's Road, South Tottenham, London N15. In 1930 the London County Council took over the running of the hospital from the Metropolitan Asylums Board. In 1948 it became part of the National Health Service under the control of the North East Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board and Tottenham Hospital Management Committee. The hospital was renamed St Ann's General Hospital in 1949 or 1950.
