Weymouth: Radipole Park and Gardens

Car parking nearby on Commercial Road.

Many buses to the bus and coach terminus, nearby.

Train station nearby.

[1] From the Library turn right onto the path down the side of the Library (Mulberry Terrace).  At the end, turn right and continue to the pedestrian crossing adjacent Weymouth Marina.

[2]  Cross Commercial Road and go ahead on the approach to Westham Bridge. Immediately on the right, join the footpath  alongside the Swannery. Pass the restaurants.  Once under the road bridge, take the path on the right around the car park to the pedestrian crossing at the car park entrance.

[3] Cross over and down the path by the reed beds along Radipole Park Drive, as far as a blue sign for Weymouth College etc. 

[4] Cross the road to enter the park. You may wish to spend some time sitting on a bench or picnicing.  Walk through the gardens in the direction you have just come from to leave by an entrance at the other end.

[5]  Use the crossing point here to rejoin the path on Radipole Park Drive and retrace your steps to the Library.

A. The Swannery

Swans have frequented this part of Radipole Park Drive and Lake since the 1930s The original viaduct over the Lake was demolished in 1974 and replaced by the Swannery Bridge, which opened in 1987 to road traffic.

B. Radipole Park Gardens

Running alongside Radipole Park Drive and near the RSPB nature reserve, the gardens offer year round interest with summer bedding, bulbs, shrubs and a variety of trees. Other facilities include tennis courts, basketball courts, a skate park, play area, car parking and a large open grassed area. The group Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens was set up in 2006, in order to preserve the benefits of a park for the community.
