Getting there

Buses operate from Bournemouth (No’s 13 and X6) half hourly and hourly respectively. No X6 starts from Poole.

Free parking is available in the Tesco car park. Enter at traffic lights in Ringwood Road.

Description

[1] Leaving the Barrington Centre turn right and follow wide path to traffic lights. Turn right and at St Mary's Road turn right and follow to end.  Enter alleyway to Albert Road and turn left.  Follow to T-junction at Church Road.

[2] Turn right and pass Westwood Avenue on right. Cross busy road with care and take first left, Cherry Grove.

[3] In 10m at 20mph sign, bear left on woodland path.  Be aware of tree roots particularly after rain.  Continue between yellow and white posts with playground on R to finally exit, between concrete posts, onto tarmac path at the 'Memorial and Garden of Memories'.  As tarmac path turns left, bear half right onto the grass to pass the Diamond Jubilee Throne.  Cross rd to single bollard and enter cycle/pathway (use pedestrian lane and beware of cyclists) with wire fence on right.  At end pass bollard to come out onto a road.

[4] Turn left to pass Ferndown Village Hall and follow to T-junction at Church Road. Turn right and cross busy road with care and then take first left into St Mary's Road and (rejoining outward route) continue to traffic lights. Turn left and follow wide pathway to return to the Barrington Centre.

POI information

The Memorial and Garden of Memories is dedicated to Lt.John Thornton RM, who died whilst on active service in Afghanistan during 2008. The Memorial is also where local people will be honoured.
