This walk starts near the Light House Family Centre, which is next to the Oakfield Health Centre. Start by turning left from Oakfield Health Centre car park, beside the Echo Pharmacy and walk along the lane a short distance with the doctors surgery on your left and playing field on your right.
[1] At the end of the car park turn left between the railings where there is a concealed footpath. Follow the path as it turns right. You will cross two mosaics on the path before coming out onto the road, at cedar Avenue (this area may be busy with parked and moving cars at school start and finish times).
A The mosaics were made by the pupils at the Kings Farm Primary School. Turn right at the road by the school entrance.
[2] Take the first turning on the left into Hawkins Avenue. There is new Housing both sides of the road. Cross Christian Fields Avenue and continue to the T-junction at Wilberforce Road ( the road ahead beyond this is a dead end).
[3] Turn right into Wilberforce Road and continue along, past the footpath sign, to the next road on the left (opposite the Holy Trinity Church, B).
[4] Cross the road carefully and turn left into Mungo Park Road as it goes down hill.
(C) From near the top of the road you have views to the left towards the Thames and the rest of Gravesend. The River Thames is the longest river in England and the second largest river in the UK after the Severn.
Continue down Mungo Park Road, passing Nansen Road on the left. Continue to the end.
[5] At the junction turn left towards the shops. Follow the road down to the main road and turn left again into Valley Drive.
If you have the time and energy, at this point you can cross the road at the crossing, and turn right and then bear left to follow the clear path through a gate up to the Woods in the area of Open Space. When you reach the corner of the woods and see the play area, turn left and after about 20 metres there is track (caution muddy) through the woods which winds back down to the main path and back to the road.
[6] Walk past the Green fenced area on your left and then Mike Spring Court.
[7] Turn left into Whitehill lane, with a green area ahead and to your right. Walk up to the top of the hill, keeping the open park area (D) on your right.
[8] At the top of the hill, turn left into Christian Fields. As the new housing starts on the left, cross the road and continue straight on into Ash Road (do not bear left along Christian Fields as currently - December 2012 - the road is blocked pat ay along due to building
[9] At the end of Ash Road turn left into Cedar Avenue and walk past the recreation ground (E) on the right towards the school. Then retrace your steps, back along to the mosaiced path to the start point.
