[1] Turn left in front of County Hall to walk towards Durham Light Infantry Museum (DLI).
[2] When the path forks, bear right to walk downhill.
[3] At the end of the path, follow the way signposted 'DLI Museum car park'. This will lead you past DLI Museum on your left. Walk past the car park.
[4] Go through the left gate that leads to 'Aykley Heads & Newton Hall'. Shortly after the gate, there is a small path on your left that leads uphill with a couple of steps. Follow this trail as it leads you through the woods.
Take care as the path might be muddy at times.
[5] When you reach an open space in front of you, keep on walking straight ahead to follow a narrow but obvious path (Jubilee Walk). Follow the path as it goes around and along County Hall. Ignore small paths that go off at the right and left.
[6] Ignore the tarmac path on your right and keep walking straight ahead until you reach steps. Turn right to walk up some steps. Go through a gate and follow the path further until you reach the road.
When walking the alternative route, turn right here to follow the tarmac path. Follow it as it goes around to the left and past unused sports grounds on your left. Follow the path as it goes off to the right after this. At the end, you will reach the Police Constabulary in front of you. Cross the road and turn right.
[7] Cross the road and follow the pavement to the left. Follow the footpath for a distance.
Take care when crossing roads.
[8] Cross the road at the pedestrian island in front of the 'Register Office' sign. Follow the pavement, cross the next road and pass Bistro 21 on your left. Follow the road further down. You will walk through the County Council car park.
[9] Cross the small road at the zebra crossing and return to the starting point.
