Description

[1] From the Tudor Centre turn left and then right onto Bewcastle Grove.

Walk past the shop/post office, cross over the road, continuing in the same direction. Soon cross Belgrave Boulevard to take the footpath ahead towards the Ring Road and the pedestrian crossing.

[2] Cross over the Ring Road and follow the path to the next road, Cashmore View.  Cross over and turn left along the road, down the hill, which later becomes Woodstock Road. (Take care - there is some uneven paving on the way). When pavement appears on the left hand side,  cross over and continue.

[3] At the junction with Halifax Drive, turn left and soon at the roundabout cross right and follow the pavement ahead into Thurcaston Road, staying to the right. A road joins from the left and immediately after this, cross the road with care to take the footpath which bears left up to the high level bridge.

Cross the Ring Road via the bridge and follow the path down towards The Sidings. Continue beside the road, past the Greenacres' cafe ("The Platform" - a family restaurant offering light refreshments) to Leicester North station. This section is uphill.

(A) This part of the walk uses part of the Great Central Way -  a walk that continues along the old Great Central Railway after the terminus at the station. The walk takes you all the way through Leicester and out at Aylstone Meadows.

(B) Leicester North station is situated on the Great Central Railway, a heritage railway which is mainly operated by steam trains. It runs along the route of the Old Great Central Railway, which first opened to passengers in 1899. The station itself was built more recently (opening to the public in 2002) and replaced the original Belgrave & Birstall station (a little further to the North) which closed in 1963 and was demolished in the 1970's.

[4] Retrace your steps to the roundabout where Thurcaston Road meets Halifax Drive, and cross the road straight ahead. Continue into Belgrave Boulevard, only as far as the first pedestrian crossing.

[5] Cross over the ring road here and turn left along Belgrave Boulevard. (Look out for cyclists on the pedestrian/cycle path). Walk up the hill. Pass flats on your right and Jersey Road.

Turn right into Bewcastle grove, and back to Tudor Centre
