Starting From St. Andrews Healthcare Centre, Dogpool Lane, Birmingham, B30 2XH.
[1] From St. Andrews Healthcare Centre turn right and walk along Dogpool Lane. Having reached the bridge over the River Rea cross to the other side of the road and at the Highbury Public House, bear left into Moor Green Lane.
[2] When safe to do so cross Moor Green Lane and walk to its junction with Shutlock Lane. Notice the unusual and unexpected big white Modernist House at the junction with Elizabeth Road, as you walk to Shutlock Lane.
[3] As you look across Shutlock Lane you will see an entrance to Highbury Park; enter the park. Here there is a choice of routes one longer than the other.
The longer route (pink): Follow the tarmac path to the left when entering the park. Turn right when the path splits very soon afterwards. The path takes you deeper into the park, passing a small lake on the right and some wooden sculptures on the left. Follow this path all the way round bearing right each time there is a split in the path. The path exits the park back into Shutlock Lane at its junction with Dads Lane. This route adds about half a mile to the walk.
[4] For the shorter walk take the first turn to the right off the tarmac path. The path crosses a small stream and quickly ends and becomes a grass track. As you start to cross the grass you pass an Oak tree on your left and then look ahead to a well cut grass path. On reaching a tarmac path/road, turn right and exit the park as above.
[5] Cross Shutlock Lane on leaving the park and turn left. Almost immediately you reach Dads Lane, turn right and walk along Dads Lane. Cross Dads Lane at the pedestrian crossing opposite The Highbury Public House, turn right and return to the Centre.
