Description

[1] From the bus stop at The Glebe / Whitehouse Road follow downhill in the direction of sign post " Cramond Village and Kirk". Continue down Cramond Glebe Road past Cramond Kirk and Cramond Inn on the right. At the bottom of the brae look ahead and to the right to view Cramond Island. Public toilets are available at this point, up steps to the right. Turn sharp left to follow the foreshore and the river bank upstream. Pass River Cramond Falls and Falls Cafe. A set of steep steps need to be climbed and descended. Continue ahead to arrive at the "T" junction at Dowie's Mill Lane. Take the right turn over the River Almond stone bridge to Cramond Brig / Restaurant.

(A) Cramond Island is located approx. 1 mile off-shore and is connected by a tidal causeway. Great care must be taken not to be stranded.

[2] Enter into Dalmeny Estate at Cramond Brig Farmhouse sign post at the far right-hand side of the Pub car park "Queensferry 6m, Inverkeithing 9m, Blackness 15m,  Cycle Route 76 (1)". Pass the information board for Dalmeny Estate to then pass through metal gate. Continue along surfaced estate road taking each straight option. Ignore cycle route sign post Route 76 on your left and continue straight through metal farm gates down to the start of the Shore Walk. At the bottom of the path, with the beach ahead, turn left along an unsurfaced path.

[3] Continue along Shore Walk past Golf Course with Dalmeny House off to the left. At end of Golf Course turn onto surfaced estate road. Turn right on surfaced road and pass entrance to Barnbougle Castle before taking the right hand fork onto rough surfaced path ahead. Always take the main rough surfaced path through the trees passing Peatdraught Bay, Whitehouse Bay and Boathouse at Long Craig Pier. Pass under the Forth Rail Bridge arriving into South Queensferry opposite Hawes Inn. Stride along the promenade taking in the splendid views of the towering Forth Rail and Road Bridges before entering into the High Street. Passing the Boat House Restaurant and Orocco Pier Hotel on the right head down Gote Lane to investigate the harbour area. Leave the harbour via the path through the small park area and head into the car park. Take the path on the left which is Rose Lane to bring you  out opposite the Police Station in Hopetoun Road where you can catch the bus back to Edinburgh.
