[1] Head across the meadow towards the stone bridge, climb up to the road and cross the bridge. (Currently - May 2013 and likely to last throughout the summer - there is work being done at Teston lock which spreads as far as the meadow, so you need to make for the vehicle entrance and go almost as far as the road before turning right towards the bridge.) Take a permissive path (extension to path KM21) on the left parallel to the road but when path bears away from the road turn right to cross the road next to an information board, on to a tarmac drive opposite. Follow the drive, bearing first left and then right, then passing some cottages and going through a gate past a concrete pill box, all the way to Tutsham Hall. Bear left past Hall, heading uphill along another tarmac drive to a lane.
[2] Turn right and take the first path on the left along the left hand edge of a field. At the top corner turn right and look for a stile in the hedge on the left. Over the stile, turn right along right hand edge of field and at corner continue in same direction along edge of old orchard. At post turn left uphill out of orchard, across scrubland and through chestnut coppice to a lane.
Cross lane, bear left for a few metres over a stile then turn right with hedge on your right. Continue to lane. (There is - May 2013 - fencing under construction on the approach side of the lane, calling for a two-step climb, about 60 cm. in all. Workers think a stile might perhaps be planned.)
[3] Take footpath opposite and go diagonally to the right, across middle of large field (in direction of Yalding church in valley bottom) and after about 200 metres, at right hand end of fence, turn left along path between fences. Go ahead, passing to the left of a small brick building, to sunken track. Turn right downhill to lane.
[4] Turn right and take path on left up bank through metal kissing gate. Follow path through woods with fence on right to emerge through another kissing gate into street. At end turn left and at corner take path signposted Greensand Way past almshouses. Follow Greensand Way signs to centre of Yalding.
[5] Turn left down main street (street market on Saturday mornings) past church and over river to T-junction. Turn right and when buildings end bear right across meadow (where there are seats for lunching) to bridge over Medway.
[6] Cross the bridge then walk between the canal on the left and the road on the right until the road crosses the canal. When the road swings left after the bridge, instead turn off it to the right on to canal towpath following both Greensand Way and Medway Valley Walk (signs slightly hidden) alongside the canal, which is now on your right.
[7] Ignore the waymark which soon indicates the Greensand Way leaving on left, but keep right to follow towpath, becoming riverside path when canal joins the Medway, all the way to Wateringbury. Cross the road and continue past signal box along riverside path with river on your right. Normally you would pass Teston lock and, with Teston Bridge in sight, bear left across meadow back to car park. But the works mean that currently - May 2013 - you have to leave the river just before the lock. The left turn is not signposted, but is immediately after a pair of gates, next to a red litter bin, and almost opposite, on the other bank, the concrete pill box you passed at the start of the walk. Once you are on this path there are temporary signposts leading back to the meadow and the car park.
