Route Summary This 2.5 mile circular walk takes in the green spaces of Rushey Mead School's sports grounds and Rushey Fields Recreation Ground. It then progresses to the Belgrave Hall Conservation Area where there is the opportunity to explore the grounds.

First Bus service No 22 operates from Leicester Railway Station and Haymarket Bus Station to Gleneagles Avenue

 

 

Description

 

This walk has a number of busy roads, please take care when crossing these and use pedestrian crossings where possible

Some of the pavements and paths are uneven in places - take care.

[1]  From the centre turn left, cross Gleneagles Avenue and continue for about 200m

[2]   Take the path to the right, Gleneagles Walk, and continue for about 200m

Take care on this path as it is also used by cyclists - keep to the pedestrian designated path

[3]  Turn left onto the path taking you through the grounds of Rushey Mead School

Take care on the bridge over the stream as it is sometimes damp and slippery

[4]   Turn right at Rushey Fields Recreation Ground and then turn left onto Melton Road

[5]  After about 200m turn right onto Woodbridge Road

[6]  After 500  m  turn   left into Berridge Lane and continue forward on Claremont Street

[7]  At the end of the street turn right onto Checketts Road and continue to its junction with Loughborough Road.   Cross straight over at the pedestrian crossing onto Vicarage Lane 

[8]  After 200m turn right onto the path by the side of the church and continue forward onto Church Road

(A)  You are now entering the Belgrave Hall and Belgrave Gardens Conservation Areas and you may wish to explore the gardens for a short while.  The Hall was completed in 1709 and is a Grade II listed building. The gardens are a site of special historical interest and were created at about the same time.  It is rumoured that ghostly apparitions have been seen in the Hall

[9]  At the end of Church Road turn right onto Thurcaston Road,continuing to the junction with Loughborough Road 

(B)  On the opposite side of  the road, at the crossroads is the former Belgrave School, now in use as offices., and built in Mountsorrel granite.   Note the Jubilee Clock dated 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

[10] Turn right onto Loughborough Road and immediately cross over the road at the pedestrian crossing.  Continue forward onto Bath Street

[11]  Turn right after Bath Street Glass and continue forward onto Fieldhouse Road

[12]  Turn left at the end of Fieldhouse Road onto Berridge Lane and then first right onto Sandringham Avenue.  Continue to the end of the road.

[13]  Turn left onto Melton Road, cross over, and continue for about 500m

[14]  Just after Rushey Mead School turn right onto Rushey Close and then onto Gleneagles Walk.  Continue to the end to return to the centre
