Start: Outside the Hallamshire Hospital on Glossop Road, Sheffield S10 2JF
[1] Cross at the lights and go left and use the pedestrian crossings to Clarkehouse Road. Turn right along Clarkehouse Road past the arched entrance of the Francis Newton pub (A) but take the next entrance on the left and continue down, keeping the Francis Newton to your left, until you see the entrance to Lynwood Gardens ahead. Turn left once inside Lynwood Gardens (B). Feel free to walk around (there are several interpretative panels) or exit by the playground, which is visible ahead as you walk along the path which bears to the left. Exit beside either the playground into Dorset Street, and continue along to its end and then turn right into Broomspring Lane. Cross to the opposite pavement and take the first left into Brunswick Street. Continue until you reach Glossop Road.
[2] Cross Glossop Road and go straight on between the university buildings . Bear left up a flight of steps and continue past the students’ union building (on your left). Go under the wide subway under Western Bank and go up the steps on your left to Firth Court. A notice outside the entrance has information on the founder of Sheffield University, Mark Firth. Pass a George VI postbox and enter (C) Weston Park through gates. Bear left and pass the war memorial on your left, continue straight ahead towards the museum. You could look around the park or visit the museum. Exit the park by the museum gates and continue right up Western Bank.
[3] Turn right into Northumberland Road, crossing to the opposite pavement. When you have crossed the junction with Marlborough Road, immediately on your left is a cobbled Narrow Walk with stone walls at either side (D). The valley over the wall on your right contained the Ralph and Misfortune Dams, two of ten built in the 18th Century to serve central Sheffield. Only the lake in Crookes Valley Park remains. When you leave the walk, turn left at the top of the steps and immediately left into Highnam Crescent Road. Turn right at the junction with Elmore Road, and then left along Moor Oaks Road.
[4] At the end cross Whitham Road at the lights, turn left and then right into Beaufort Road. Go first left into Severn Road and right at the end along Tree Root Walk. To go back to the hospital, continue until you reach Claremont Crescent and turn right into the crescent, and then right again on reaching Glossop Road.
