YHA Telscombe micro trail

Brighton buses 14, 14c, 14d  and N14 stop in Telscombe Road, North Peacehaven on the route.  The route also goes to Brighton and Newhaven.  For full details see the Brighton Buses web site

[1] Turn right out of the hostel and enter the churchyard.  Just before the church entrance turn right on a path.  Go through a gate and walk up to an obelisk gravestone.  Turn left here and exit the churchyard through a gate.  Turn right.  You will see a field gate directly in front of you, but take the path that is just to the left of this, heading east.  As you walk along the path there are great views to the left.

[2]) At the end of the path you emerge on to a track, just by a bench.  Turn right along the track.  You come to a junction where another track comes in from the left.  You can either bear right along the track or walk straight ahead on the grass. 

[3] You emerge in a road with Bungalows.  This is the edge of Peacehaven.  From here masses of bungalows march down to the sea. Turn right at the junction. Pass Louvain Plants, where you can drop in if you want to buy something for your garden.

[4] If continuing on the walk continue west past the bus stops. Shortly the road bears left.  The main route goes straight ahead on a track.

[5] The track continues west to Telscombe Tye, a piece of land that is open to everybody.  Reach some gates and turn right on the track (at various points on the Tye you may prefer to walk on the grass next to the track.) You meet another track coming in from the left at the brow of the hill and the route ahead becomes a tarmac road.  Walk down the road into Telscombe village.  As you enter the village you will see the path to the Youth Hostel sloping up to your right.

With the exception of the section through Telscombe churchyard, which can be avoided, this route can be done on horseback or by all terrain bike.

At Telscombe Road the bus stops at DOWNS WALK.  The bus stop on the opposite side of the road is for buses to Saltdean (beach, lido, spanish tapas cafe), Rottingdean and Brighton.  The bus stop on the same side as the nursery is for buses to Peacehaven centre and Newhaven. Buses go about every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday during the day, less frequently during the evenings and on Sundays.
