Description

[1] Take the walkway almost opposite the main gate on Henson Street and cross the road into Clay Pit Way. This bends right and left to an interesting greenspace (A). If every wooden cube, post and boulder were seats, how many people could sit down? (30). Carry on down the hill and turn right into Tudor Close, which is red brick instead of tarmac. Follow it left to reach the main road along a short tarmac walkway.

[2] Turn left and cross at the bollards. What type of sportsman is the man on the pub sign? Turn right in-between the pubs onto Bridport Road and go straight on into Darnall Community Park. The large flat greenspace is suitable for a group activity.

Look closely at the huge rock (B). Does it look real? Though the same colour as the smaller natural boulders around it this rock is made of concrete. Several Sheffield parks have them, some with hand and foot holds for climbing. Go straight on up the hill to a mosaic of four children (C). What are they doing and what organ inside their bodies is visible? You can see their hearts pumping and they appear to be doing hard exercise, keeping fit like you are on your walks.

Turn left on the walkway beyond the mosaic and continue along the road. Turn left into Flaxby Road. Who opened the Darnall Housing Cooperative and on what date? The clue is on the corner with Kashmir Gardens. (Councillor Jim Moore on 30 Oct 1990). At the end turn left alongside the high green fence and follow the road round to the right to the junction.

[3] Cross with care to the walkway opposite with the handrail and zig-zag up the hill. Turn left into the cul de sac and right into Uttley Close. Keep straight on between the houses and cross the road to Chapelwood Meeting Room (D). What do the worshippers eat for their breakfast on the Lord’s Day? (Bread). Turn left and then right into Fitzmaurice Road and take the path on the left back to school.
