[1] Take the dead end road going left in front of the Bulls Head pub and go downhill along the track. Immediately after passing under the M1 turn left to the field corner, then go half right across two more fields to enter a wood. Take the middle of the three paths ahead and continue to a cross path.
[2] Now leave the Leicestershire Round, which goes straight on over a footbridge, and turn left. After 200 metres take a narrow path on the right indicated by a waymark. Follow it through trees, cross two footbridges and go uphill across two fields. From the top right corner of the second field a track leads to a road.
[3] Go left 20 metres and take the path opposite along the driveway to Whittington Grange. When the tarmac ends continue straight on along the left edge of some large fields. Cross a stile and continue downhill, now with the hedge on the right. Do not go through a kissing gate at the bottom, turn left and join a drive coming out of a mobile home park. Continue ahead over the M1 to a road and turn right. Take care on this busy road.
[4] Just before reaching the motorway again, go through a bridlegate on the left onto a bridleway. Go ahead on a clear track to the motorway and turn left alongside it for a noisy few hundred metres. Keep on the track as it swings left and heads away from the motorway with a hedge on the left. Enter some trees and continue straight on to join a larger track then a tarmac drive. Follow this drive, which becomes very enjoyable as it goes through trees, to arrive at the A50.
[5] Go right and cross the A50 at the traffic lights. Continue downhill and take a footpath on the left 20 metres beyond Wallace Drive. Follow the track until you reach two large metal security gates. Keep left of them and go ahead on a narrow path between fences. When the large wooden fence on the left swings left, follow it and continue along a clear path to reach a metal stile. Keep ahead through trees to reach a kissing gate leading into a field.
[6] Fork left across two fields to reach a wood. Go into the trees by a waymark and reach a track by a sharp right bend. Follow the track uphill to a gate. A rocky area just to the left makes a nice sandwich stop. Continue along the track to a road and take the path opposite down through a field to reach Newton Linford.
(A) Newton Linford is a popular estate village at the entrance to Bradgate Deer park, which is explored in another Leicestershire Round walk. As you enter, you will pass some tea rooms and gift shops catering for the visitors, there is a large car park with public toilets to the right. There are a couple of pubs at the far end of the village and you will enjoy seeing numerous beautiful buildings as you walk through.
[7] You are now back on the Leicestershire Round and will be following it all the way back. Turn left to reach a mini roundabout and continue straight on along Main Street right through the village. At the far end turn left along Markfield Lane for 40 metres and take a path on the right. Go diagonally left to the field corner then up to a kissing gate on the right. Go through and follow the path up through trees. The path eventually levels off and goes straight on over a cross path to reach a gate onto a track.
[8] Go straight ahead past stables. Go through a small gate just left of a larger gate and immediately turn right through another small gate. Go across the field to a large gate opposite. Do not go through it, instead turn left uphill with the hedge on your right and a wire fence to the left. 100 metres before reaching a wood go right through a gate and turn left, now with the hedge on your left. Cross a stile into a large open field with great views to the right. Continue along the left edge to another gate, then go half right downhill across two fields to a gate leading into a scrub area. Follow the path to a T-Junction and turn left through a subway and up to a road. Turn right and then left along Main Street, which you follow all the way to the end where you turn right to reach the Bull's Head again.
