Description

[1] Start from Martley Village Hall and with your back to the hall turn left along the road.  Shortly, the road bears sharp left.  At this point take the country lane to the right (signposted for Kingswood).  Proceed past "Sandy Fields", ignore the footpath coming in from the right at the end of the houses and continue ahead where the ground opens out to reach a cross roads of paths.

Turn right along the Worcestershire Way signposted towards Bewdley.  Carrying on here takes you to the Martley Rock geological site (A).  The road undertakes an immediate double bend and then proceeds uphill before falling away sharply.  It then bends left and right past "Peak" and "Jubilee" Cottages.

A few yards on take the path waymarked on the left through a kissing gate.  Continue along the footpath past a shed and drop steeply through woodland before swinging right to join the River Teme.

[2] Carry on with the river to your left along the stream-side path.  Pass a brown gate on your right and walk beneath a telegraph wire.  There are steep drops to the river and one or two awkward “steps” on the way, so take care, especially with children.

Ignore a path to the right and cross the footbridge leaving woodland and entering an area of open, green space.  Keep ahead along the river and cross a field boundary via a footbridge.

Half way along the next field, at a waymark turn right and go across the field to reach a footbridge on the far side.  Pass through a gate and climb by a left hand hedge through a gate and hence on to a busy road.  (An old path may be marked on your OS map passing through Hambridge Farm).

[3] Turn right on to the road (take care as it may be busy) and then almost immediately left, across a stile, and then proceed steeply uphill following a just discernible path.  Go slight left to a waymarked post and stile.  Continue ahead in the direction of the waymark (lovely views behind you of the Teme Valley).

Veer slightly left to a stile/gate in the left hand corner of the field at the end of a wooden fence and keeping The Tee Farm to the right. Hillend Farm is directly in front of you.

Go through the stile/gate and continue along the path uphill through a wooded area to another gate. Turn immediately right on to a track and then in 250 yards right again through a waymarked gate.

Proceed slightly downhill with a hedge on your left passing a wooden shed, and cross a stile keeping straight ahead via a grassy track.  Go half left at the waymark continuing along the hedge to the left.  (Your OS map may have the path going across the centre of the field but this may be obstructed).

Turn right across the corner of the field and walk up a slight incline to reach “The Noak” Farm (B).

[4] Continue ahead with a barn on your left and turn right through a waymarked gate. Pass the farm house on your left and take the right veer in the path along a track (joining from the left) to reach the road.  This may be busy so take care.

Turn left along the road and quickly right over a waymarked stile along a footpath.  In 100 yards turn left and continue ahead through a gate and then turn half right down a steep bank (exercise caution here).  Turn right where a path joins at the bottom of the bank and then quickly left down some steps into a wooded area.

Proceed ahead out of the trees into open ground with a hedge on your right. Pass through a gap in a cross path and then walk ahead back to the village hall.
