Turn right on footpath (not Weald Way) following hedge line. Cross stile in right hand corner of field. Follow footpath with hedge on right. Cross 2nd stile and join track. Follow track passed farms and cottages. Here are some interesting farm conversions. At signpost turn right and cross stile onto grass track.

[2] Follow footpath between trees and cross board-walk ignoring left and right paths to footpath junction. Go straight, over stile and keep hedge on right. Follow footpath ahead across fields and 3 stiles towards houses and into lane.

[3] Turn sharp right, signposted “Chiddingly 3/4m”. Follow pavement for 300 yds past Chiddingly school. At right hand bend in road take footpath across road on left between houses. Follow through woods bearing right at finger post.  View of Chiddingly ChurchWhen footpath joins Vanguard Way bear right. Follow 100 yds crossing footbridge then turn immediately right on path into woods. At next footpath junction (50 yds) go straight on. Cross stile into field and follow hedge on left. Before farm buildings cross stile on right under large oak tree. Bear left along hedge and fence lines staying in fields to reach lane.

(A) Place Farmhouse ,formally listed as Chiddingly Place. The present farmhouse is part of a large E-shaped C16 mansion built by Sir John Jefferay, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer, who died in 1577. It later fell into ruins, and the west wing was demolished in the early C19. The original centre portion is now a farmhouse. It is of red brick with a hipped tiled roof.

[4] Turn right and follow “The Street” into Chiddingly. At Six Bells pub go straight ahead to reach car-park on left and end of walk.

(B) Chiddingly Church. Large impressive church with landmark spire. Chancel rebuilt in the 19th century; traces found of Norman masonry from the 11th and 12th centuries, suggesting an earlier church on the site.
