This walk has a number of busy roads, please take care when crossing these and use pedestrian crossings where possible.
Some of the pavements and paths are uneven in places - take care.
[1] Start where Gooding Avenue joins the traffic island. With the park to the rear turn left, cross Gooding Avenue and continue around the traffic island, crossing Thurlington Road and taking the third exit to continue along Braunstone Avenue. Cross Valence Road and Astley Close and take the pedestrian crossing to cross Braunstone Avenue.
[2] Turn left, cross Imperial Avenue at the pedestrian island and then almost immediately take the entrance into Westcotes Park. Continue anti-clockwise around two sides of the park to the Winchester Avenue exit.
A small stream runs through the park. Please keep children away from its edges.
(A) This small park was originally a farm and was converted to a public space in 1905. The Braunstone Brook runs from Braunstone Park and on to Fosse Recreation Ground and then to the Rally Park where it joins the River Soar. Bronze Age items have been found locally and an Iron Age settlement is known to have existed in the area.
[3] Turn right onto Winchester Avenue and continue forward across four streets to its junction with Fosse Road South.
[4] Turn right onto Fosse Road South and continue forward over Imperial Avenue to pass Fullhurst Community College and its playing fields on the right. Continue forward over Fullhurst Avenue, Bewicke Road and Ellesmere Road.
[5] 200m after Ellesmere Road turn right onto Ardern Terrace and cross over when convenient. Continue until the street bends right.
[6] Cross the grassy area to Peverel Road and go right to its end at Braunstone Avenue.
[7] Cross over and turn right onto Braunstone Avenue or go through the park to return to the start.
