Description

This walk has a number of busy roads, please take care when crossing these and use pedestrian crossings where possible

Some of the pavements and paths are uneven in places - take care.

[1]  Enter the park by the barrier on the corner of Gooding Avenue. Turn left and follow the footpath, which parallels Braunstone Avenue.  Pass the Street Sports Area on the left (which was formerly the site of a paddling pool), cross the stream and continue to the path 't' junction.

This path runs alongside a stream.  Please keep children away from the water's edge

[2]  Take the exit onto Braunstone Avenue.  Turn right and continue forward across Cort Crescent - careful, wide road and no pedestrian crossing - and Odam Close to its junction with Braunstone Lane.

[3]  Turn right onto Main Street, cross over, and continue forward to pass The Shakespeare public house on the left.

(A) The Shakespeare Inn is a pleasant half-thatched building which was a farm up until 1954. The name is not linked with William Shakespeare, but after a previous owner of the building. This used to be Braunstone Village centre until Liecester overwhelmed it, which is why Braunstone Lane / Main Street is so curvy.

[4]  Turn next left onto Balmoral Drive and continue to its end.  Go left into Avon Road and after 50m turn left to enter the park.

(B)  Shakespeare Park covers an area of 6.5 acres.  It has a small play area, a football pitch and a bowling green which can, at certain times, be used by the public.  It is surrounded by housing on three sides and is adjacent to the Shakespeare public house.

[5]  Exit the park at the original entrance point.  Turn left onto Avon Drive and continue to its end.

[6]  Turn left onto Shakespeare Drive, continue forward onto Braunstone Avenue to return to the start by the way you came.
