This walk has a number of busy roads, please take care when crossing these and use pedestrian crossings where possible.
Some of the pavements and paths are uneven in places - take care.
[1] Enter the park by the barrier on the corner of Gooding Avenue. Turn left and follow the footpath which parallels Braunstone Avenue. Pass the Street Sports Area on the left (which was formerly the site of a paddling pool), cross the stream and continue to the path 't' junction. Turn left to take the exit onto Braunstone Avenue. Turn right and continue to the junction with Cort Crescent.
This path runs alongside a stream. Please keep children away from the water's edge.
[2] For a longer walk with good views of the Ecology and Fishing Pools follow the footpath which parallels Braunstone Avenue to the Cort Crescent end of the park, At the end of the stream take the main path to the left of the trees to reach the Ecology Lake. Follow the path around the lake then around the Fishing Lake to reach the car park. Cross the car park and turn left on the main path to exit the park at the Braunstone Avenue / Cort Crescent junction.
[3] Cross Cort Crescent, Odam Close and Braunstone Lane at the mini-roundabout. Continue ahead onto Shakespeare Drive.
[4] Turn first left onto Hathaway Avenue, cross Shottery Avenue and Henley Crescent and continue forward, bearing right on what is now Henley Crescent.
[5] Turn first left onto Welcombe Avenue and continue forward to take the path into Franklin Park. Continue through the park past the playground to emerge onto Bramble Way.
(A) The area had been fields up until the late 1930's when new housing development started.. After the war some of the ground was acquired by Leicester City Council for allotments. Part of the allotments were then sold to the local council in the 1970’s and converted into Franklin Park. In recent years the park has been extended to include a community orchard , meadow area and wildlife pond to give an abundance of flora and fauna.
[6] Ignore the first left turn but then at the 't' junction turn left and take the footpath leading to Camden Road. At the end of Camden Road cross Braunstone Close, turn right and then almost immediately turn left onto Ayston Road and continue forward through the shopping area to the junction with Braunstone Lane.
[7] Cross Braunstone Lane at the pedestrian crossing. Continue forward along Wyville Row to the traffic island.
[8] Bear left around the traffic island to take the third exit onto Peverel Road. After 200m cross over into Folville Rise and bear left. Continue to its end to return to the start.
