[1] From the lay-by facing the road turn right and then immediately right again down a quiet lane. Continue down the lane for 0.5 miles until just before a small brook which runs under the road. There are two footpaths on your left, go through a wooden gate and with your back to the gate go straight ahead which starts off as a track then turns into a footpath later on. As you go through the wood steadily climbing then dipping then climbing again before you go through another small wooden gate. Just past the wooden gate take a footpath on your right going down beside a fence on your right (Don't go straight ahead) continue down to a small brook then up the bank over two stiles into a field. Go straight ahead towards the right of the barn by electricity pylon go over stile onto a track.
[2] Turn right down the track, then before you reach the farmhouse (Poolhouse Farm) follow waymarks into a field on the left avoiding farm. Go through two metal gates then heading towards the left of the farm go through another metal gate. Now go straight ahead down a track keeping to the left of the farm, keeping right at a fork, then when you see a gate at top of hill to your front,don't take this track but follow the track left down to the brook becoming fairly steep and slippery. Cross brook (no footbridge) and go up the bank and keep right. Go through two metal farm gates and continue straight ahead to the left of electricity pylon. With the oast houses in the far distance continue straight ahead through gap in intermittent old hedge and eventually head down to the bottom far hand corner of field. Grid Ref: SO 723676. Go over very high stile then over wooden plank bridge. Turn left alongside the brook and follow to footbridge on your left. Do not cross the footbridge but go up two sets of wooden steps on your right by a house. At the top of the steps turn left along a drive and continue to road.
[3] When you reach the road turn left for 500 yards going past Wharf Farm and then just after a house on the left look out for a footpath on your right through a gate. Go through gate and look for stile on right. Go over stile then turn left keeping hedge on your left. Go through metal gate and turn left over a bridge then right through another gate heading diagonally uphill through another gate. Then keep ahead to the tree line. Then keeping the hedge on your right, head uphill to a gate in the top right hand corner ignoring two stiles on your right, (good place to stop for lunch). Go through this gate onto a track. Continue across track and over stile onto a bridleway then turn right. You pass a building and a deteriorating collection of vintage cars and go through a gap on your left. Turn right heading uphill with hedge on right to a stile. Go over stile and heading diagonally left uphill to the right of a pylon look for another gate on your right in far hedge. Go through gate and keeping the hedge on your right follow the field around as high and as close to the hedge as possible to a (very difficult) gate/stile hidden away on your right. Grid Ref: SO 711684. Go over stile then up the bank keeping hedge on left to follow hedge to another stile, go over stile and keep hedge on left to the corner. Don't go over stile in corner but turn right to head uphill keeping hedge on left. Go over stile then continue uphill to go over another stile on your left and continue to road keeping hedge on your left.
[4] From the road continue straight ahead along drive/track to another road. Turn left then just past Brockwood House on your left bear right through gate into Menithwood. Follow the track for approx.25 yards, at the end of the gravel bear diagonally right onto an unmarked footpath, follow the footpath through the wood over a bridge and continue straight, soon taking the diagonal left turn which goes slightly downhill, over a culvert then uphill to a small road. Turn right and soon turn left up a drive. As you reach a house on your left look for footpath on the right hand side of the garden to your right –small way marker post. Follow this footpath keeping to the hedge on your right over a plank bridge to a cul de sac road then keep straight ahead past houses to a T-junction. Go up drive opposite through wooden gate and keeping to the right go through two more gates into a field. Go diagonally right across centre of field into upper far corner.
[5] Cross a track and go over another stile. You can either go up the hill in front of you to the trig point [another good place for a break and for the views] or go to the left of the hill and look for a stile in left fence line at corner. Go over stile and turn right heading downhill to another stile continue ahead with pond on your right go over another two stiles and a wooden bridge then turn right over another stile. Keeping hedge on the right go downhill through metal gate on right then immediately turn left over stile into woodland. Follow footpath along going over a footbridge before a house. Over bridge follow path round to the left with the house on your right and continue up a bank to a junction of paths. Turn right along a drive past some buildings and through a metal gate, continue down the drive until you meet another drive on your right then turn left past a shed and look out for a stile ahead on your right. Go over stile and keeping hedge on your right follow path uphill through two fields to road. Turn left then right over stile to continue downhill through two metal gates on either side of small stream. Go uphill across a field keeping hedge on your left through another metal gate. Keeping hedge on your left continue to a metal gate just a past house on left. Go through gate turning right along drive to a T-junction.Turn right then almost immediately look for an enclosed footpath running to the left of a house leading you down to the road.
[6] Turn right at the road then left down a lane and, in 300 yards, turn right again up a quiet lane for a few yards.Just past a house on your left, turn left to go in front of the houses. After passing a semi detached house go left between the houses then turn right to follow alley path through a gate and over a stile into a field. Turn right to follow hedge to the top of the hill and look for stile on the right. Go over stile then go straight ahead over another stile to road. Cross the road, turn left to walk along the verge by the side of the road back to the lay-by.
