[1] Come out of St David’s Church and turn right at the post box. Turn right into Shenley Green Park, turning left with the path and then turn right when you come out in Green Meadow Road.
[2] Walk steeply downhill, passing a new housing development on your right. At the bottom of the hill cross the road ahead of you and turn left into Black Haynes Road. Then about a hundred yards further on, turn right into St Denis Road. Turn right at the post box into Corvedale Road and right again after about five hundred yards into Lovell Close. At the end of Lovell Close you enter Manor Park.
[3] Take the footpath ahead of you across the park. Immediately after crossing a bridge, turn left onto a grassy area. (If the grass is wet and/or muddy, continue along the path and then turn left onto another path and come down to the lake.) After crossing the grassy area, you come to the lake.
If you have the time and inclination, you can walk around the lake, but the path can be a bit rough and also muddy in wet conditions.
[4] When you come to the lakeside, turn left on the path and cross over another bridge. Follow the path until it comes out in Eyemore Close (unnamed). Turn right at the end of Eyemore Close, left into St Denis Road, then right into Guiting Road. Walk to the top of Guiting Road (steep!).
For an alternative route which will shorten the journey, turn left at the end of Eyemore Close into Corvedale Road, walk along Corvedale Road and retrace your steps back to St David’s Church.
[5] At the top of Guiting Road, turn left into Black Haynes Road, then after a short distance, cross the road to take the second right into Cranesbill Road (first right is almost directly opposite Guiting Road). Shortly afterwards, turn right then left into Shenley Gardens. Walk steeply uphill, curving around with the road, coming out into Summerfield Drive and eventually out on the level by a children’s play area.
If you want to lengthen the walk without adding extra climbing, turn right at the top of Guiting Road, first left into Clover Road and left again into Hawkestone Road. Walk back to St David’s Church past the children’s play area at the far end of Hawkestone Road, crossing over Green Meadow Road.
[6] Turn left and make your way back to St David’s church, crossing over Green Meadow Road.
