[1] Leave Triplex house and walk down Eckersall Road, away from the Pilkington factory. At the end, turn right and then immediately go right again by the pedestrian crossing. This will take you onto the Rea Valley Route (A) and at the start you will see a sign describing the valley and wildlife you are likely to see. Take the graveled path and walk along through the pleasant lightly wooded area. There are benches positioned along the path. Although not visible through the trees, the River Rea (B) is to your left.
[2] As you follow the path, you will see the back of the factories to your right, behind the fence and trees. As you reach the end of the footpath, take the gateway to your right, which if open, will bring you out at the back of the Pilkington factory. Then turn left and cross the bridge, to follow the path for a short distance before turning right through an entrance leading to Wychall Reservoir (C). Here you will see a sign describing the area and its wildlife.
For an alternative shorter route you can go straight ahead here, rather than turn into the entrance, and exit onto Wychal Lane. Then turn left and follow the residential road onto Westhill Road to go left again and turn into Eckersall Road and return to Triplex House.
[3] Following the well-surfaced path, continue past the reservoir and over a bridge, until you reach Popes Lane. Turn right and cross by the railway bridge to follow the road on the pedestrian pathway on the other side. Walk along the path, under a bridge, before crossing back to turn right into Longfellow Road.
[4] Walk to the end of Longfellow Road, to then turn right onto Middleton Hall Road and right again into Lomaine Drive. Follow this road as it becomes Redwood Road and turn right into Station Road at the end. Cross over the bridge and walk straight ahead between the car parks to the end of the road. Turn right, past The Camp Pub on your right, into Eckersall Road to return to Triplex House.
