[1] Turn right out of the centre and walk along Chatsworth Road. Cross all the side streets carefully as you walk downhill where you reach the junction with Millfields Road. Cross Millfields Road and head right into a park.
[2] Follow the path across the park, heading to the right. Cross straight ahead when you reach a road forking away to the left, and continue along the path through the park. After a short distance the path will come to the Lea Valley Navigation, also known as Hackney Cut.
[3] Turn right and walk up the slope to cross over the Cut via the footbridge. Take care on the cobblestones. There is a low hand rail on the left .Once over take extra care walking down the slope as this is also cobbled and there is no hand rail. Turn right along the riverside path and walk with the water on your right.
(A) You are now walking along the Lea Valley Walk; one of London’s strategic walking routes. These are long distance paths that provide great walking opportunities throughout the capital. Visit www.walklondon.org.uk for more information. Be careful of cyclists all along the path.
To your left is the Lea Valley Nature Reserve, and, if you have time, several paths lead off from the riverside into it. There is a seat just into the Reserve as well as maps of the river and information about the filter beds.
[4] Continue along the riverside path, passing under two bridges including Cow Bridge. The path has a cycle barrier straight ahead, which is very narrow, so take the wider path here and walk up to the footbridge over the Cut. There are steps and a ramp here. There is a view of the Gherkin straight ahead in the distance from the bridge.
[5] Once over the bridge, turn immediately left and cross the car park diagonally to a gateway into a recreation ground. Follow the path through the park, heading towards a set of school buildings. Exit the park after the school and turn right along King’s Mead Way.
[6] As the road turns left, cut back into the recreation ground and follow the path across, taking the right fork. There is a children’s play area heret. The path leads to an exit onto Daubeney Road. Turn right and cross the road. Then almost immediately turn left into Redwald Road. Walk up the road to the junction with Glyn Road.
[7] Cross Glyn Road and head left. After a very short way turn right into Dunlace Road. At the junction with Chatsworth Road turn right, and after a short way you will have returned to the centre.
