[1] From the corner of Lightbowne Rd and Nuthurst Road, enter Broadhurst Park go through the hedge that boarders the playing fields and enter the playing fields. Look over to the other side of the field- you will see a single story brick building (the Pavilion). Cross over the field towards the pavilion, when you get there, exit this area via the car park. This will bring you out onto Moston Lane.
Alternative route: To avoid the field (slightly muddy and a bit slippery) walk along the roads that boarder the playing fields(Nuthurst Road and Moston Lane), going around the fields rather than through them.
[2] Cross over Moston Lane. (Unfortunately there are no lights, and Moston Lane can be fairly busy so care must be taken.) Turn left when you have crossed over and walk towards the post box which is on the corner of Horncastle Road. Turn right into Horncastle road and walk to the end where you will see blue railings and the entrance to the park, Boggart Hole Clough.
[3] Take the path that leads to the left. Keep walking along this path following the line of the fence to your left. You will eventually come to a place where the path goes down to a grassy area. This started life as an informal short cut but it now looks like the main path. Can be muddy and slippery underfoot.
[4] Instead of going down, keep left along the fence. Follow the fence until it ends at the disused school gates and then follow the path right along the line of fence posts. At the end of the line of fence posts you will see another that crosses the end of the path you are on. Turn left and follow this new path until you come through the gates into the main part of Boggart Hole Clough.
[5] Go through the gates and turn right along the wide path which is the main path round the park, look on the left and notice the black railings, look for the gates. Go through the gates, ahead of you is the duck pond and to your right you will see the newly renovated black and white building which is the cafe. If open it is a very good place to stop for refreshments and toilets if needed. Continue the walk by going round the duck pond keeping the pond on your left.
[6] When you have gone about three-quarters of the way round the pond you will see some gates on your right. Go through the gates and down the steps where you will once again meet the main path. Turn right along the path, which leads down-hill. Look for a bridge that will be on your left. Cross over the bridge and continue along the path to the exit on Oakbank Avenue.
[7] Turn left out of the Park and after a few yards turn left again onto Carill Avenue. Pass by Lentmead Avenue and turn next right along Wharfdale Avenue. Pass by Whernside Avenue and then take the next left into Tyndall Avenue. Walk to the end of Tyndall Avenue and turn right into Croft Hill Road.
[8] At the end of Croft Hill Road you are back on Moston Lane. Turn left and you will see the big yellow pencils that mark the school crossing. Cross at this point, however there is no help to cross as there are no lights or zebra crossing, so cross with care.
[9] Once you have crossed the road turn left and walk a little way along Moston Lane. Coming-up very shortly are the gates to St Joseph’s Cemetery. Enter the Cemetery and go a little way up the main path. Shortly to your right is another tarmac path, you will see a large and imposing cross about fifty yards down this path.
This is the Irish memorial, and well worth taking time out to look at. In fact St Joseph’s Cemetery is a really fascinating place with a great variety of gravestones and monuments.
[10] Go towards the memorial then when you reach it turn left and follow the path that leads out of the cemetery onto Lightbowne Road.
[11] Exit from the cemetery at this point and turn left along Lightbowne Road, back towards the start point on the corner with Nuthurst Road.
