[1] From Cavendish Square library turn left and walk through the car park to a cycle track (look out for cyclists); turn left again here and walk into the road ahead (Priory Road). Turn right into Hillingdon Road and continue to Norcliffe Road. Turn right again here and then left into Rosedale Road, then left again into Denholme Road. Follow Denholme Road until reaching Cranmore Avenue - walk directly across into Parkstone Walk (stay left side) keep going straight ahead into Eccleston Close and onto Shaftesbury Avenue.
[2] Turn left into Shaftesbury Avenue and walk as far as the mini-roundabout by Keswick Road. Cross Shaftesbury Avenue here, looking for a wooden bridge across the River Cole leading to a footpath around Shaftesbury Lakes (A).
The River Cole is a tributary of the River Thames. The river rises near Swindon, at the springs which fed the old Wilts and Berks Canal at Marshgate.
Bear left for a pleasant lake-side stroll which will take you to another wooden bridge. Do not cross it but continue along a footpath with a hedgerow and children's play area on your right until reaching a broad tarmaced cyclepath (look out for cyclists). Turn left on cycle path back to another mini roundabout on Shaftesbury Avenue. Cross the road here into Whitworth Avenue and continue along until reaching Cavendish Square.
