Description

Starting from: the underpass at Windmill Hill Business Park, SN5 6PE.

[1] With your back to the underpass, turn to your right and walk up the path toward the main road and continue along the pavement to the junction with Hook Street, cross straight over to the footpath opposite – take care crossing this road. You are now walking along Hay Lane and in 150 metres it forms the pavement for a short section of King Henry Drive, keep walking to the end and continue on the footpath where you will once again be back in Hay Lane.

(A) The Windmill Hill Business Park takes its name from the traditional windmill which is the beautiful centrepiece of the Park. The windmill gives the impression that it has been there for a century or more but in fact it has stood there only since the 1980s though its history stretches back rather further. The windmill was moved, brick by brick, from its original site in Chiseldon where it had been since the 1820s.

[2] Continue along the lane, crossing straight over Sudeley Way and continuing on until you reach the roundabout on Grange Park Way; turn right here down the hill and cross to the other side just after Rochford Close where there is a dropped kerb. Continue down the hill to the roundabout where you turn left to go along Sudeley Way. When you reach Bosworth Road, cross over to enter Tallis Walk.

[3] Follow the footpath down to the subway to pass beneath Whitehill Way and out into Kiln Park. From here the path does weave a little but just keep walking straight ahead, bearing slightly right, crossing over Rowton Heath Way and passing the Oliver Tomkins School on your left and continuing until you reach Freshbrook Way.

[4] At this point you must cross over Freshbrook Way – this is a main road, so do take care – and turn right to follow the footpath all the way down, across several side roads, to the T-junction with Worsley Road.  You will see the Freshbrook Evangelical Church across the road to the right in front of you.

(B) Freshbrook Evangelical Church, Swindon. An Evangelical Christian church focused on family outreach and spiritual learning.

[5] Here – once again exercising caution – cross the road and turn right and after 80 metres turn left into Uxbridge Road. Follow it around to the right and walk to the far end.  At the far end is Windmill Court sheltered housing where you will find a wide footpath going off to your left that runs along the perimeter fence. Turn left along this footpath and down the slope to the underpass which goes under Whitehill Way, go through the underpass and back into Windmill Hill Business Park.
