Description

A short walk towards the source of the River Lea, taking in plenty of streams along the way.

[1] Leave the Community Centre by the main entrance / exit and turn right onto Mayne Avenue. Continue a short way up this road, crossing over the stream. Soon after you reach a pedestrian crossing for Mayne Avenue by the sign for the Natural Play Trail.

[2] Cross Mayne Avenue and turn right for just a few steps before reaching Broxley Mead. (Caution: Take care when crossing the road).

[3] Turn left onto Broxley Mead and continue the walk on the pavement alongside this road.

[4] Continue straight over at the junction with Barley Lane and Clifford Crescent. (Caution: Take care when crossing the road).

[5] Continue straight over at the junction with Pirton Road and Clifford Crescent.(Caution: Take care when crossing the road).

[6] Turn left onto Vincent Road at the next junction, and continue past the Gospel hall on your left.

[7] Follow the road around to the right as it turns into Nappsbury Road. Continue along Nappsbury road and pass Hanover Court on your left.

[8] At the bottom of the road, turn left onto Toddington Road, passing a red post box on your left, and follow this path as it runs parallel to the stream on your left.

[9] As you pass a mini roundabout, look for the footpath on your left called Riverside Way, (there is a railway bridge on the opposite side of the road), and follow this path.

[10] Continue along this path, crossing a small street named The Hedgerow.

[11] Cross the footbridge and bear left as the path forks in front of you, passing wooden fence panels on your right.

[12] At the end of the path, turn right onto the quiet residential street and then turn left onto Pirton Road. Continue along Pirton Road passing the bus stops until you reach Actworth Crescent.

[13] Turn right onto Actworth Crescent, passing the high rise flats on your right and continue along this road until you pass a small cul-de-sac on your right named Teesdale.

[14]  Just past Teesdale, there is a pedestrian crossing point to cross Actoworth Crescent, towards a small open green space. Cross here and turn right for a few steps until you pass a stream and reach a footpath on your left. Take this footpath as it follows the stream around the children's play area. (Caution: Take care walking close to the stream).

[C] Children's Play Area

[15] Continue over the footbridge to your left and, once across, take the path that forks right, cutting through the open space until you reach the junction of Broxley Road and Mayne Avenue. Cross Mayne Avenue to re-trace your steps back to the community Centre. (Caution: Take care when crossing the road).
