Getting there

The start can be reached using MK bus route 17, from Bletchley to the Coachway.

The bus travels along Broughton Road, round Griffith Gate roundabout and along Worrelle Avenue. Both these roads appear on the route map. More information is available at http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/

Alternatively, the start may be reached by car from Tongwell Street (V11).

There is a carpark at the start for users of the medical centre or the pharmacy.

Description

[1] Walk out of the medical centre to the the nearest road – Griffith Gate. Turn left  and follow the path to the roundabout, which is signposted Griffith Gate Roundabout.

[2] At the roundabout, follow the path round to the right, crossing Griffith Gate and into Worrelle Avenue. Carry on down Worrelle Avenue on the redway path, crossing Clare Croft and Howe Court along the way, until you reach Tanfield Lane. Cross the lane to a T-junction with another redway.

(A) The Milton Keynes cricket pavilion is on your left as you approach Tanfield Lane http://www.mkvpavilion.co.uk/

[3] Turn right and follow the redway along Tanfield Lane, over the bridge  over the main road.

[4] You will come to Broughton Local Centre. Among the shops are a fish and chip shop and a supermarket. The redway  stops at this point but continues in the same direction on the other side of the road. Cross the road and continue along the redway.

[5] You will come to bridge (B) over a stream (Broughton Brook).  To the left is a view of Broughton Church through the trees. Do not cross the bridge but turn right along the redway, which follows the stream. This is a picturesque grassy section with lots of reeds in the stream.  (Be careful with young children by the stream.) Pass some benches and a footbridge. Just beyond the footbridge, bear left, and then turn left on a narrower path which runs closer  to the stream rather than walking along the redway. After a short while, this path rejoins the redway. Turn left along the redway. Cross Milton Road, with the Circus, a large roundabout, on your right. Bear left onto a footpath which runs parallel to the redway. After a few minutes, this path rejoins the redway.

[6] You will come to a playground (C) on the right-hand side of your path, with a redway running right round it. Turn right and curve round the playground until the second exit, which is signposted to Middleton and Monkston.

[7] At this exit turn right and follow the redway. You will pass a school on your left - Oakgrove School (D).

(D) Oakgrove School is an 11-18 comprehensive school http://www.oakgrove.milton-keynes.sch.uk/

The redway runs through an underpass. Just beyond the underpass the path meets a T junction with another redway.

[8] Turn right and follow the path which runs alongside the main road.

[9] At the first redway junction on the left, turn left and follow the path which will take you to Griffith Gate roundabout.

[10] Turn sharp right and follow the path back to the start, which is  to the right, just ahead of you.
